A RECORD SETTING MEET FOR RANEY HIGHLIGHTED BEANTOWN WINTER CLASSIC
Meet Information
The Beantown Winter Classic
December 21-22, 2024
the TRACK at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - This past weekend a select group of Lexington High School athletes competed at inaugural Beantown Winter Classic. This invitational style meet was laid out in a format that mirrored what New York high school track & field athletes experience every weekend at The Armory, including all six indoor field events and team scoring. This format gave Massachusetts kids a true taste of what the sport of track & field is supposed to look like, as they competed against fellow student-athletes from across the region. While The Minutemen only had a few athletes competing, they still managed to finish 13th of 47 on the boys' side, and 32nd of 37 on the girls' side.
The highlight of the weekend came from junior Aidan Raney. Already the school record holder in the indoor Pole Vault at 12'6", Raney came to the TRACK on Saturday looking to raise the bar. After he cleared 12'6" on his first attempt, the junior sored over the bar at 13'0" on his first attempt to reset the record. The bar then moved up to 4.10m (13'5.50"), where Raney again cleared on his first attempt to the delight of the Lexington supporters. While he had solid jumps at 4.25m (13'11.50") he failed on all three attempts at the height. However, his clean sheet over 4.10m gave him the tiebreaker over Stamford (CT) junior Nate Elsner to win the event outright. Along with Raney's record day, fellow classmate Simon Tandeih took his first run at the 55m Hurdles this winter. After LHS's captain qualified for the finals with a time of 8.13 seconds, he overcame some interference from a fellow competitor to place fifth in a time of 8.06 seconds in the finals. Lexington's last point scorer of the meet was junior Ainsley Cuthbertson. After breaking the record in the Weight Throw earlier in the week, she turned in a throw of 38'4.25" to place fifth overall in the event.
