THE MINUTEMEN DELIVER ELITE LEVEL PERFORMANCES AT COACHES INVITATIONAL

Meet Information
MSTCA Coaches Invitational
January 26, 2025
Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Sunday, a group of LHS's best were back at Reggie Lewis for the Coaches Invitational. The meet featured the best student-athletes from Division 1 and Division 2 schools in the Bay State, and offered teams a preview of how they will stack up as championship season approaches. For The Minutemen the meet was highlighted by a pair of victories, two more national qualifiers, and a newly minted LHS record.
The meet got off to a great start as senior captain Ryan Zhang got himself into finals of the 55m Hurdles with a time of 7.69 seconds. LHS's indoor hurdle king was able to match that mark in the finals and earned fourth place in a race that saw two athlete dip under the previous meet record. On the oval, freshman Janie Conrad turned in her best performance of her high school track career. The ninth grader delivered a fourth place finish in the Mile with a personal best time of 5:05.83. That time qualified her for the New Balance Indoor Nationals in March. After Conrad put on a show, fellow classmate Amelia Whorton took her turn. Running from the unseeded section of the 600m, Whorton blasted through the opening two laps in 60 seconds. Despite the blistering start, the freshman powered around the final lap to cross the line in 1:34.44. Along with the earning a runner-up finish and being another national qualifier for The Minutemen, Whorton's performance broke the LHS record set by Lucy Lang (LHS '15), which stood for a decade. Following the big day for the freshmen, seniors Zach Barry and Max Zhang were on the line for the seeded section of the 1000m. The race was out fast as Marshfield senior Graham Heinrich drove the pace. LHS's seniors laid back early but made their way up through the field over the first three laps. As the two approached the bell for the final lap, they had moved up into the third and fourth positions, and that is where they wound up. Barry first, in 2:33.78, followed by Zhang in 2:34.16. The final highlight of the day came from junior Aubrey Deardorf. While she earned a fifth place finish in this meet last year, Deardorf came in on Sunday as the number two seed. And, after five rounds of jumping, that is where she stood going in to her final attempt. With Wellesley senior Annie Comella (17'7.25") in the lead by just a quarter inch, Deardorf delivered a leap of 17'10" and grabbed the first major championship of her high school career.
