January 4, 2025
Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - It was a quick turnaround for The Minutemen on Saturday. LHS's meet against Reading wrapped up at around 8pm on Friday night, and by 9am the next morning they were at Reggie Lewis to compete in the annual Freshman/Sophomore Meet. The meet offers teams a unique opportunity to see how they will stack up in future years against the rest of the state, as underclassmen take center stage for their teams for the first time. Due to the tight schedule, Lexington only brought their sprints, jumps, and hurdles crew to compete to compete this year, but those athletes that did get their chance, seized the opportunity.
Sophomore Emily Hoefkens made her season debut in the 55m Hurdles and put on a strong performance. She turned in a personal best of 9.42 seconds to qualify first in the finals, and then managed a silver medal with a 9.32-second time in the finals. After a breakout performance last night, Cynthia Gu proved that she was not a flash in the pan. The freshman improved on her personal best with a 9.66-second preliminary race, before earning fourth place with a time of 9.52 seconds in the finals. Later in the meet sophomore Marissa Hao competed in the unseeded section of the 300m. There, she blew away her section with a personal best time of 43.84. That time held up through the final heat to earn her a silver medal for the event. In the Boys 300m, sophomore Sheryas Hanchinamani competed his heart out in the seeded section to get across the line first. His time of 36.88 seconds was a massive improvement on his personal best. Despite the great run, though, he had to settle for silver as a runner from the previous section bested his mark. The final event Lexington competed in on the day was the boys 4x200m Relay. Hanchinamani was joined by fellow classmates Cayden Chambers and Luis Linares Gutierrez, along with freshman Bennett Siino to compete in the seeded section. While the group had some rocky exchanges of the baton, they still managed a strong performance - 1:35.27 - to earn a silver medal of their own, as they finished behind a meet record by the team from St. John's Prep.

LHS will once again be put to the test against a league rival as they face off against Woburn this Wednesday, January 8th. The Minutemen and the Tanners have dominated the Middlesex League over the years, with all but one of the Indoor championships since 2014 being captured by the two schools. Lexington's girls will have some added incentive as last year they shared the Indoor title with the Tanners, and finished third to them outdoors. Action will begin at BU at 4pm.
