Middlesex League JV Championships

RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Monday, Lexington's best JV athletes traveled to the TRACK at New Balance to compete for the final time this season. The Minutemen have been nearly unmatched this season in League competition at the varsity level, but LHS showed they have the depth that will carry them into the future as the boys took home the team title with 108 points to runner-up Winchesters' 69. Meanwhile, the Lex girls were even more impressive as they scored 123 points to best the Red and Black's 62.33.
While the story of the meet was the way the teams competed, a nod has to go to a group of LHS boys who were simply top notch on Monday. Junior Andrew Gu, junior Stefanos Kontothanassis, senior Sharif Robinson Jr., and sophomore Ben Alperovich all turned in performances that met the standard for the varsity Middlesex League Championships. Gu got the job done in the 55m Dash, where he made his season debut by winning the event in a time of 6.89 seconds. After a blistering opening lap, Kontothanassis dug deep to overtake Arlington senior Calvin Wood for the title in 600m. his time of 1:31.41 was a personal best. Finally, it was Robinson Jr. and Alperovich on the Long Jump runway. On Robinson Jr.'s second attempt he flew 19'8.75", which was a nearly three-foot improvement on his lifetime best in the event. That mark held up to earn him silver on the day. Right behind him, Alperovich's leap of 18'11.25" was good enough for bronze. While their seasons may be complete, they certainly made the most of their final opportunities on Monday night.
Lexington's girls got off to a tremendous start to begin the meet, as they put up 52 points in the Hurdles and Dash alone. To put in perspective how impressive a performance that was, with just those points LHS would have finished third overall at the meet. For the Hurdle Squad it was freshman Kashish Kumar who won the day with a personal best time of 10.16 seconds. Sophomore Valesca Ellerman earned bronze with a time of 10.33 seconds. Just behind was freshman Ella Pan, who placed fourth in 10.36. And, sophomore Saaya Krishnan (10.91) picked up two points with her seventh place finish. After the great showing in the Hurdles, The Minutemen busted out the platinum broom in the 55m Dash. Freshman Natalie Seed matched her personal best to win the event in 7.91 seconds. She was followed just behind by fellow classmate Sabina Green (7.92). Sophomore Alyssa McKee turned in a time of 8.00 seconds to earn bronze. Senior Caitlin Lennox earned fourth in 8.12 seconds in what was a fantastic show of depth by the speed and power group.
