THE MINUTEMEN GET BACK TO COMPETITION AT JV SEASON OPENER
Meet Information
JV Meet #1
December 9, 2024
The Track at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - While many track & field leagues in Massachusetts relegate their junior varsity, and even varsity, athletes to compete on little more than gym floors, LHS's Athletic Director and Middlesex League Commissioner for Cross Country, Indoor, Outdoor Track & Field insists on providing the best possible setting for student-athletes to compete. As such, The Minutemen were back at what has become their home away from home for the last three years, The Track at New Balance. The JV season opener featured athletes competing in the speed and power events to get a mark on the board in just the second week of the season.
The Lex girls are primed for a great season, and showed their depth on Monday night. The team's top returning hurdler, sophomore Emily Hoefkens, tested out her speed in the 55m Dash in style. Hoefkens won the event with a time of 7.91 seconds. Freshman Sabina Green debuted for The Minutemen with a victory in the High Jump. A clear of the bar on her first attempt at 4'5", followed by a clearance on her second attempt at 4'7" earned her the win over Wilmington freshman Kaylin Mulik on jumps. LHS's final victory of the night came from junior Emily Wondolowski in the Shot Put. Wondolowski's best throw flew 23'9.25" to take the event by over a half-foot.
On the boys' side, the lone victory came in the Shot Put. Sophomore Alessandro Vicentini dropped a 35'5.25" throw on his first attempt, which held up through the rounds to earn him the win over Reading sophomore Brandon LaMontagne. The Minutemen also showed well in the 300m, where junior Panos Kokkinias took second place with a personal best time of 38.93 seconds. Freshman Matteo Sanchez de Rojas made his high school debut with a third place finish in a time of 38.97 seconds.
