RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - On Sunday, The Minutemen returned to their home away from home, the Track at New Balance, for the final time until many in the area will be picking out their next Christmas trees. It has already been a historic season for Lexington Track & Field, but on Sunday one final chapter was written.
In recent years, LHS's hurdle crew has developed into one of the deepest event groups in the Bay State. In fact, Sunday marked the third straight year LHS's boys have competed in the 55m Shuttle Hurdles at Nationals. While the 2023 team was marred by a fall, the 2024 team finished in the top 20 with a school record time of 31.77 seconds. Two of the members of that team - junior captain Simon Tandeih and senior captain Ryan Zhang - were back this year along with juniors Cleavon Manor Jr. and Aidan Raney to try and make their mark. Sure enough, the "Burger Squad" proved to still have plenty of juice in them. From the 7th of 12 heats, The Minutemen ran a sensational time of 31.29 seconds, which averaged ~7.82 second per leg, to finish 10th overall. In addition to etching the 12th new LHS record of the season into the books, the performance by the boys was the highest finish in school history in the Indoor Shuttle Hurdles. Along with the fireworks on the straightaway, junior Ainsley Cuthbertson turned in a strong performance in the Shot Put. After an inconsistent day on Saturday in the Weight Throw, Cuthbertson found her form and ended on a high note. She finished 22nd overall - fifth among underclassman - with a throw of 38'6".
With that, the 2024-2025 Indoor Track & Field season is in the books. When one looks back at this season, the numbers will speak for themselves. 16 national qualifiers, 12 LHS records, 1 All-American, 2 Middlesex League Liberty Division Championships, 2 Middlesex League Championships, 84.87 points to win the Girls Division 1 Championships. Each is impressive in their own right, but the story of this season will always be focused around how the team came together on that Wednesday night in February and simply ran the best teams in Massachusetts right out of the Reggie Lewis Center. Without any focus on time, distance, or marks, Lexington's girls and boys were relentless in their pursuit of every available point they could muster. They blended championship experience and leadership with youthful excitement in what was a truly special team effort. The girls' championship and the third place finish by the boys equaled the highest combined finish at the Division 1 Championships in school history. And, while it is impossible to compare meets and teams, the fact is that the 2015 boys' champions and third place girls came away with 91 points at Divisionals. This 2025 team delivered 124.87. Fans can talk about which team was better, but as someone who was there to experience the ride that was the 2024-2025 season, all I can say is that we hope to experience many more like this one in the future. Outdoor Track & Field may begin tomorrow, but, for one more night, we can soak in what will always be a season to remember.
Up Next
With Indoor complete, The Minutemen will now head outdoors. LHS's Bomb Squad will begin the season by throwing the Hammer at the 57th Annual R.I. Knights of Columbus Relays in Providence, Rhode Island. The meet - at Conley Stadium - gets underway at 9:00am.
