Winchester Dual Meet
January 20, 2025
the TRACK at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Despite a snowstorm blanketing the Greater Boston area on Sunday night into early Monday morning, the six teams that make up the Middlesex League's Liberty Division made to to the TRACK in time for the 9:00am start of the final dual meet of the season. Both Lexington's boys and girls were in position to control their own destiny and win the Liberty Division title as only the Winchester Red and Black stood in their way. In the end, both teams came away with decisive victories. The Lex girls polished off an undefeated regular season with a 75-25 win, while the boys won 76-24 and earned a share of the division crown for themselves.
The Minutemen's star junior Aubrey Deardorf was at her best on the long jump runway on Monday. After a solid opening leap of 16'10.50", Deardorf delivered the biggest jump of her Indoor career. The junior exploded off the board and flew 17'11.75" into the sand. That mark broke the previous Indoor long jump record held by Ally Crooke (LHS '10). As Deardorf was able to break Crooke's Outdoor record in the event last spring, Monday's mark clearly cements her as the best long jumper to ever come through Lexington High School. Along with Deardorf's big day, junior Monjola Finnih finally had the breakthrough she has been working towards. Finnih has been the epitome of consistency throughout her career in the 55m Hurdles. Eight times she has run a time between 10.20 and 10.60, with her best performance coming just two weeks ago. On Monday, as often does for hurdlers who display the kind of effort and discipline as Finnih, it all came together. She flew over the five barriers and crossed the line in a Middlesex League Championship qualifying time of 9.89 seconds. Callie Glenn also had a strong day. The sophomore competed in the 2 Mile for the first time in her young career. She won the event going away in a MIAA Division 1 Championship qualifying time of 11:36.82.
Lexington's boys were led by their captain, senior Ryan Zhang. After a slow start to the season, Zhang proved he is peaking at the right time. He blazed through the 55m Hurdles in a time of 7.73. Along with being #3 all-time in LHS history in the event, his performance qualified him for the New Balance Indoor Nationals. In the 600m, Nathan Cunningham made his season debut for The Minutemen. A brisk 54.10-second opening quarter mile carried him to an Divisional qualifying time of 1:25.07. Towards the end of the meet, the Distance Squad took center stage in the 2 Mile. Sophomore Alden Hall (10:09.75) led the way for The Minutemen along with juniors Sam Finch (10:09.93) and Liam Singh (10:12.11), as all three dipped under the Divisional qualifying mark en route to breaking out the golden broom to sweep the event.
