RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Now in its third year of operation, the TRACK at New Balance is quickly becoming the hub of Indoor Track & Field in the Northeast. This past weekend teams from across New England, New York, and New Jersey made the trip to Boston to battle it out at the Beantown Winter Classic. For Lexington, the meet was an opportunity for a handful of their top athletes to face top competition early in the season. Sure enough, The Minutemen performed well across the two-day meet, as the boys put up a number of great performances on Saturday, while the girls took center stage on Sunday.
The Beantown Winter Classic marked the first time LHS's triple jumpers had the opportunity to compete since last spring, and Cleavon Manor Jr took full advantage of that chance. Despite a PR of 44'4", Manor found himself in the first of three flights of the triple jump, while the rest of the top jumpers were in the final flight. After fouling his first two attempts by running past the board, Manor Jr and his coaches made the decision pull his mark back to give him a better chance to get in a legal jump. The gamble paid off as the senior barreled down the runway, bounded through his three phases and landed at 44'4.75". Along with the personal best, that mark broke the Alexios Kontothanassis's (LHS '23) Indoor record set during his senior year by over a foot. Manor Jr qualified for the finals, but was not able to improve his mark. Despite this, he still earned a bronze medal with his performance on Saturday.
Other Highlights for the Boys
As has been the case for many of the meets early on this season, Sunday was showcase for one of the finest throwers in Massachusetts history. And, even by her extremely lofty standards, senior captain Ainsley Cuthbertson had herself a day. In her first attempt in the weight throw, she put a throw out into the sector that was nearly five feet farther than the best mark of her closest competitor. However, she was just getting warmed up. Each of her six throws on the afternoon landed over the 51-foot mark. Then, with her final attempt, Cuthbertson broke her own personal best with a throw of 54'4.75", which retook her US #3 spot.
Other Highlights for the Girls
Up Next
The Minutemen will return to the TRACK at New Balance on Monday, December 22nd for a meet against rival Woburn. The Tanners always bring their best when they square off against Lexington, so fans can expect an action packed evening, as the meet begins at 4pm. Live results can be found HERE.
