KOHUT SHOWS SHE CAN HANG WITH THE BEST AT MSTCA HOLIDAY CHALLENGE
Meet Information
MSTCA Holiday Challenge
December 27, 2025
the TRACK at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Lexington was back at the TRACK at New Balance on Saturday, with a handful of athletes who competed at the MSTCA Holiday Challenge. The meet saw another string of great performances by The Minutemen. However, it is safe to say that no athlete on the Lexington team has turned more heads early on this season than freshman Abbey Kohut.
The Lex girls entered the winter season as the defending MIAA Division 1 state champions in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field. Along with the hardware, LHS is in the rare position where it returned nearly every point scorer from last year's championship teams. With all that talent, it was hard to imagine that any new athlete, let alone a freshman, would make an impact on the varsity lineup. Especially coming right out of the gate. However, that is exactly what Kohut has done. After she qualified for the Divisional Championships in the 55m hurdles earlier in the week with a time of 9.09 seconds, Coach Ashleigh Marks wanted to see how she would handle a step up in competition. On Saturday, she loaded into the blocks for the prelims of the hurdles, and showed just how prepared she was to compete with the best. Kohut ran a personal best of 9.02 seconds to win her heat and secure a spot in the finals. Once there, the LHS freshman would place sixth overall, edging out Duxbury junior Tessa Long by three-thousandths-of-a-second with a time of 9.06. With that, Kohut now ranks MA #12 this season, and is #5 on LHS's all-time list for the 55m hurdles.
