LEXINGTON CONTINUES TO DOMINATE MIDDLESEX LEAGUE; BOYS & GIRLS CROWNED LEAGUE CHAMPS

Meet Information
Middlesex League Championship
February 2, 2026
the TRACK at New Balance - Boston, MA.

RESULTS

BOSTON, MA - The Minutemen were back at the newly configured TRACK at New Balance on Monday evening for the Middlesex League Championship. On the girls' side, the Championship was a chance for LHS to flex its muscles, as athletes make final preparations for a run at the MIAA Division 1 title next Sunday. While The Minutemen's goals are the same for the boys, they had a little added incentive at this meet, as they hoped to avenge a late season loss to Reading. After nearly four hours of competition, it was mission accomplished for Lexington. LHS's girls destroyed the scoring record that they tied last year. Their point total of 154, was 29 points better than the previous record, and left them 94.50 points clear of runner-up Melrose. Meanwhile, Lexington's boys scored in 10 of 12 events on their way to 117 points. Reading finished second overall with 72 points. That makes it four straight titles for the Lex girls, and seven in a row for the boys.

On a night when a team scores 154 points, there are highlights all over the place. However, perhaps the signature moment of the meet came in the mile, where sophomores Janie Conrad and Ella Tyson, along with juniors Callie Glenn and Erin Ehmann went toe-to-toe with Wakefield's Quin Wilcox. For the first four laps of the race, the Lexington girls swarmed the Wakefield junior, and kept her boxed in. To her credit, she battled through the traffic, but still ran third behind Glenn and Conrad, with Tyson right behind her. As they approached the bell, it was anyone's race. The quartet jockeyed for position down the backstretch, and geared up for one final kick to the finish. There, Conrad sprang free, and the race turned into a duel between her and Wilcox down the final straight. In the end Conrad held onto victory with a winning time of 5:07.98. Along with the win, Conrad's time achieved the New Balance Nationals standard in the event. Tyson (5:09.20) ended up crossing the line third with a personal best time, followed behind by Glenn (5:12.89) in fourth. Meanwhile, Ehmann managed a fifth place finish with a personal best run of 5:20.22. Just before the fireworks on the oval, freshman Abbey Kohut delivered a massive momentum shift for the Lex girls. After she ran a PR of 8.91 seconds in the prelims of the 55m hurdles, Kohut was seeded second as she entered the finals. There, she faced off against Reading's Isabelle Lightbody and Wakefield's Kyler Dennison. In those finals, the LHS freshman got out well, but had both Lightbody and Dennison pressing her over middle hurdles. Kohut showed incredible poise to stay calm under that onslaught, and with a dip at the line took home the title with a new personal best of 8.79 seconds. That performance ranks her US #7 among freshman. While the underclassmen were electric, a shoutout has to go to the senior captains. Aubrey Deardorf broke her own championship record in the 55m dash, as she won the event with a time of 7.21 seconds. Along with the win, that mark also qualified her for Nationals. Not to be outdone, Ainsley Cuthbertson took down two meet records on Monday. Her throw of 40'11" in the shot put broke the record set by Arlington's Bella Hayes last winter. Then, to end the meet, the LHS senior broke her own meet, school, and state record in the weight throw with a mark of 57'11". If there were any doubts about who is the most dominant performer in the Middlesex League this winter, Cuthbertson put them all to bed with her double gold performance.

The story of the boys' meet for The Minutemen begins with Cleavon Manor Jr. "The Frog Man" entered Monday with a high jump PR of 5'8", but quickly took over the entire competition. Up against a talented field that boasted nine other jumpers who had cleared 6'0", including Wakefield's JaMauri Belmer, who has a 6'5" leap on his resume, Manor Jr was one of three jumpers still in the competition with the bar at 6'2". With only one attempt left for each of the athletes, the Frog Man was up first, and curled over the bar to the roar of his teammates. With the pressure now firmly on his opponents, neither were able to match his mark, and Manor Jr clinched the victory. However, he was not done yet. The bar moved up to 6'4", where, on his first attempt, Manor Jr exploded off the ground and cleared the height cleanly. His jump again threw the Lexington contingent into a frenzy, as the bar was now going up to 6-7. Despite a couple of excellent attempts, the Frog Man was unable to get over the next height. Regardless, his jump moved him up into sole possession of third place on LHS's all-time indoor list, to match where he ranks on the indoor long jump list. With his indoor school record in the triple jump, there is now a fair argument to be made that Cleavon "the Frog Man" Manor Jr is the best all-around jumper in LHS history. As was the case for the Lex girls, the boys saw incredible performances in the 55m hurdles that were highlighted by a gold medal. Senior captain Simon Tandeih flirted with the New Balance Nationals standard of 7.71 seconds all season, but had yet to achieve it. In the prelim, he finally got the monkey off his back. After Woburn's Nahshon Lubowa ran 7.71 seconds in the heat before him, Tandeih had all the motivation he needed. The senior captain cruised over the five 39" barriers in 7.70 seconds, and was on to the finals seeded first. There, the captain took it up another notch. Tandeih blasted out of the blocks, and fired over the hurdles to win the championship with a new personal and MA #4 time of 7.61 seconds. Back on the oval, perhaps the biggest swing in the meet came in the 1000m. LHS was only projected to score three points in the event, and it looked like the race had run away from sophomore Eric House and senior Will Parker through the opening 600m. However, Arlington's Nico Peukert had taken the field out extremely fast, and many paid the price. House and Parker reeled them in over the next two laps. Down the backstretch the pair of LHS athletes moved into second and third place, and nearly were able to run down Peukert in the final stretch. In the end House (2:38.44), and Parker (2:39.64) both ran big personal bests on their way to winning the silver and bronze medals.
