New Balance Indoor Nationals Day 1
March 12, 2025
the TRACK at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - The Minutemen returned to their home away from home on Thursday, this time for day 1 of the New Balance Indoor Nationals. "The fastest party on the planet" lived up to the billing as the nation's best high school talent was turning heads all day at Boston Landing. For Lexington, the story of day 1 was the performance sophomores Ceci Kvaal, Natalie Bielat, Mackenzie Callahan, and Amelia Whorton in the girls 4x800m relay.
The sophomore quartet ran from the unseeded section, but after all was said and done, they made it clear they belonged in the conversation with the best of the best. When the gun fired, Kvaal got off the line well, and mixed it up with the top girls. While Rachel Riley of Mount Tabor (NC) gave her team a massive lead with a 2:13 split, Kvaal managed to split 2:21.24, which put the Lex girls right in the chase pack along with five other teams. Next up was Bielat, who hung in with the chase pack as they began to reel in Mount Tabor over the next four laps. Bielat ran a lifetime best split of 2:20.60, and closed her team's gap on the North Carolina girls by three seconds. When Callahan got the baton, she quickly shot around the track, and got her team up into second place. The sophomore battled her way through the four laps of the oval to the tune of a PR split of 2:19.71, which closed the gap on Mount Tabor to just four seconds. From there, Lexington's superstar took over. Whorton stormed through the opening 400m in a sizzling 62.9 seconds, and took over the lead just before she hit her third lap. She continued to pour it on for the final two laps, and crossed the line with a new LHS record of 9:13.23 after a 2:11.68 split. Along with shattering school record, set at this meet last March, their time held up to finish seventh overall on the night, and put them US #14 in the event.
