WHORTON AND HAVERLY WALK AWAY FORM RISING STARS YOUTH CHAMPS WITH GOLD
Meet Information
Rising Stars Youth Champs
March 7-8, 2026
the TRACK at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - With only days left until The Minutemen will compete at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at the TRACK, a handful of Lexington's girls got in one final tune-up at Boston Landing before the best high school athletes in the nation descend upon the Hub. The Rising Stars Youth Champs welcomed youth and high school level athletes, aged 5-18, and provided the perfect setting for the Lex girls to deliver a few standout performances.
On Saturday evening, Amelia Whorton lined up with her teammates in the seeded section of the Girls 15-18 Year Old 800m. The superstar sophomore will compete in the event next weekend, after having qualified with her 1000m performance earlier this season. However, the Rising Stars Youth Champs marked the first time she competed in the half-mile since she finished runner-up in the Freshman 800m at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals last June. Despite the layoff, Whorton showed she was in fine form. The LHS sophomore sat behind the leaders through much of the first two laps, before she surged to the lead, and went on to win the race going away with a time of 2:12.94. That performance bested her own Indoor school record set at last year's national championships. Fast-forward to Sunday evening, and it was senior Felice Haverly's turn to make her mark. Haverly competed in the unseeded section of the Girls 15-18 Year Old 400m, where she followed the blistering opening pace set by Payton Richardson (NY). Despite the hot start, Haverly reeled in Richardson as they came down the backstretch for the final time, and powered to the line first with a new personal best of 58.37 seconds. That mark would hold up through the seeded section, and earned her gold in the event.
