CONRAD TACKLES THE 25-LAPPER, QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS IN THE 5000M
Meet Information
USATF-NE Indoor Track & Field Championships
February 22, 2026
Gordon Indoor Track - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Sunday, a trio of LHS athletes traveled to Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track to compete at the USA Track & Field's Northeast Championships. The meet featured both club and prep athletes alike. Which meant that Lexington's athletes would line up against women 10 years their elder. Despite the competition, the Lex girls were undaunted, and all delivered fantastic performances.
Stars on LHS's state championship winning cross country team, sophomore Janie Conrad and junior Alycia Charest had never competed a 5000m on the track before Sunday. Indoors the 25-lap race is both a test of physical fitness, and mental fortitude as athletes go round-and-round the oval. While former NCAA DIII All-American Jaime Lord of Battle Road Track Club won the even in 16:17.25, Conrad held her own as the top prep finisher. Her time of 17:39.34 placed her fourth overall, qualified her for the New Balance Nationals in the event, and was the fastest 5000m ever run by an LHS girl indoors or outdoors. Not to be overlooked, Charest had a tremendous race of her own. The LHS junior clocked 18:13.41 to finish seventh overall in the event. Later in the meet, freshman Zara Zaidi lined up in her first ever indoor 400m. Zaidi competed in a deep seeded section that saw four athletes come through the line under 58.50 seconds. In the end, the LHS freshman ran a personal best of 1:00.64, good enough for seventh overall.
