SANCHEZ DE ROJAS AND BIELAT PUNCH THEIR TICKETS TO NATIONALS

Meet Information
Battle Road Twilight Meet #4
June 8, 2025
Bentley University - Waltham, MA
RESULTS
WALTHAM, MA - While most eyes were focused on the Meet of Champions, Sunday morning a small group of LHS athletes made their way to the track at Bentley University to compete in the fourth meet of the Battle Road Twilight Series. Rain pushed the meet back from Saturday evening to Sunday morning, but conditions were perfect for racing when action got underway.
Freshman Matteo Sanchez de Rojas has been training for the 400m all year. However, with his season all but wrapped up, he decided now was as good a time as any to try his hand at the 800m. Racing against college athletes, the 15-year old high school freshman stuck his nose in there as the race cruised through the 400 mark in 57 seconds. Sanchez de Rojas hung tough through the final lap and with a dip at the line finished with an incredible debut performance of 1:59.21. That time not only qualified him for the Freshman Division at New Balance Outdoor Nationals, but also broke the LHS freshman record set by Evan Eberle (LHS '22). Next up was fellow classmate Natalie Bielat who missed the Freshman Nationals mark of 2:23.00 by just seven-hundredths of a second last week at the Division 1 Championship. This week was a different story, though. Bielat came through the halfway mark in 69.70 seconds and stayed relaxed around the turn and down the backstretch. As the race charged for home she gave everything she had to get across the line 3rd overall with a big personal best of 2:21.46. With that, Bielat will join Sanchez de Rojas and 19 other LHS athletes in Philadelphia for the National Championships.
