CONRAD FINDS HER FORM AND QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS IN THE STEEPLECHASE

Meet Information
57th Annual Glenn D. Loucks Games
May 10, 2025
White Plains High School - White Plains, MA

WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Steeplechase is a unique event in track & field. Athletes who excel at a high level in the event are built with a combination of speed and endurance, along with great athletic ability, and a fearless mentality on the track. Just under a year ago, the LHS coaches first saw Janie Conrad compete in the event. It was her first time ever racing the Steeplechase, and, as only an eight grader at Diamond Middle School, she was competing against high schoolers for the first time. Despite her lack of experience, she showed many of the necessary tools to be an elite level steeplechaser on that day in Cambridge. Just under a year later, along with teammate Erin Ehmann, Conrad was at the famed Loucks Games where the two girls got their second chance of the season to compete in their event.
After a disappointing debut last week at the Weston Twilight Invitational, from the moment the gun fired on Saturday, Conrad was determined to show what she could do. The LHS freshman came through the opening lap in 10th place in a loaded field, and began to move up through the pack as the race unfolded. In the end she crossed the line sixth overall with a new personal best time of 7:06.26. In addition to a 20-second improvement over her performance last week, that mark qualified Conrad for the New Balance Nationals next month, and ranks her US #12 in the event. Along with Conrad's big day, Ehmann took her own big step forward. After an early fall threw her off last week, the LHS sophomore was excited to get right back at it in New York. Ehmann ran from the unseeded section where she delivered a big personal best of 7:43.37 to finish 21st overall, and that performance ranks her MA #8.
