4xMILE SHATTERS SCHOOL RECORD & PLACES 7th TO KICK OFF NATIONALS FOR LHS

Meet Information
New Balance Outdoor Nationals Day 1
June 19, 2025
Franklin Field - Philadelphia, PA
RESULTS
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Day 1 of the New Balance Outdoor Nationals was interrupted on multiple occasions by severe thunderstorms. The delay forced meet organizers to shuffle the schedule, which meant LHS's 4xMile squad of freshman Janie Conrad, senior Lucy Kontos, sophomore Callie Glenn, and freshman Amelia Whorton did not step on the track until just after 10:30pm. Despite the delay, the quartet delivered a solid performance at their first ever Outdoor national championships.
Conrad got the Lex girls off to a good start with a 5:06.29 FAT split. From there, Kontos and Glenn delivered splits of 5:19.60 and 5:15.45 respectively. As Whorton waited on the anchor leg, the team was sitting in ninth place overall. The freshman charged around the track and with a strong final 100m crossed the line with a time of 20:41.66. Her split of 5:00.34 held off the late hard charge made by Clarksville (MD) to hold on to a seventh place finish. In addition to the place, the time also obliterated the LHS record in the event by over a minute. The record - set back in 2001 - featured LHS distance legend Natasha Roetter (LHS '02).
Up Next
The Minutemen are right back at it tomorrow as Day 2 will begin with Rhys Behling in the Freshman 2 Mile. Later on the LHS Bomb Squad will be represented by junior Ainsley Cuthbertson in the Shot Put and Evelyn Radcliffe in the Freshman Discus. The boys and girls 4x800m relays will then finish the day off under the lights. Action begins at historic Franklin Field at 8:40am and can be livestreamed HERE.
