CUTHBERTSON SHINES IN THE HAMMER THROW ON DAY 3 OF NATIONALS

Meet Information
New Balance Outdoor Nationals Day 3
June 21, 2025
Franklin Field - Philadelphia, PA
RESULTS
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Minutemen were back for Day 3 of the New Balance Nationals on Saturday. After Day 2 was capped off by a pair of huge performances by the boys' and girls' 4x8s, eyes turned to the throwing facility where LHS's Bomb Squad competed in their signature event, the Hammer Throw.
Ainsley Cuthbertson has been the most dynamic and versatile thrower in Massachusetts this spring. The LHS junior boasts a PR of 41'10.50" in the Shot Put and a 130'8" throw in the Discus. However, the Hammer is where she is truly a cut above, as she ranks US #28 with a PR of 158'0". On Saturday, Cuthbertson competed in the second of three flights where things were off to an inauspicious start as she fouled her first two attempts. At that point, she faced the very real possibility of fouling out of the competition altogether. Before her final throw, she had a conversation with her coach, James Hall, and made a tweak in her technique. That tweak proved to be the key as her final throw soared out into the sector and landed at 48.99m (160'8") to put her in the lead going into the final flight. Unfortunately, that ended up being the day for Cuthbertson as eight girls in the next flight passed her and she was unable to qualify for finals. Despite the disappointing finish, Cuthbertson earned a top-10 finish (ninth overall) in an incredibly talented field at her first Outdoor national championship meet.
Junior Franz Schroeder began the day in the second flight of the boys' hammer. After hitting his personal best and national qualifying mark back in mid-April, Schroeder has been unable to find his form for much of the spring in the event. However, on Saturday he delivered a strong mark of 52.14m (171'1") on his first attempt. After a foul on his second, the LHS junior stepped into the circle for the final time this spring and uncorked a bomb. The 12-pound hammer flew an impressive 57.34m (188'1") after it left his hands. That mark held up to earn him 20th place overall.
