THE MINUTEMEN HOLD OFF THE SPY PONDERS; FINISH DUAL MEET SEASON UNDEFEATED

Arlington Dual Meet

Lexington Center Track - Lexington, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - The Arlington has been a tough matchup for The Minutemen in recent years. During the fall, the Spy Ponders' girls and boys teams have traded victories with Lexington in Cross Country, and two winters ago they delivered a loss to LHS's boys during the Indoor season. This year, Arlington moved up to MIAA's Division 1 level, joining The Minutemen as the Middlesex League's only representatives at the top level of the sport. Perhaps that jump in division gave the Spy Ponders a little extra jolt this year, as in the fall, and the winter they gave Lexington's boys all they could handle. Tuesday, Arlington's boys and girls brought their best, and pushed The Minutemen harder than any Middlesex League foe this season. However, in the end Lexington walked away with two more victories, to cap off a pair of undefeated dual meet seasons. LHS's boys won by a score of 78.67 to 57.33, while the Lex girls took home the win 78-58.
While the Class of 2026 will compete one final time in Lexington, as LHS hosts the MSTCA Coaches Metro Invitational this Saturday, Tuesday was the last time LHS's seniors laced up their spikes at home against Middlesex League competition. Perhaps that gave captain Amari Mow a little more motivation, because he was on fire from start to finish. Mow began his day in the 100m where he ran a season best time of 11.02 seconds to lead a sweep of the event - along with sophomore Bennett Siino (11.10) and Cayden "Showtime" Chambers (11.16) - which earned the team nine key points in the middle of the meet. However, Mow saved his best for his signature event, the long jump.
Earlier that morning, in preparation for the big invitational this weekend, the Lexington coaches and the Town's Department of Public Works staff painted a 12-foot board on the long jump runway. LHS's jump squad had been hitting huge jumps all season, and, with only an 8-foot board installed when the Center Track was built, jumpers were coming dangerously close to flying over the stand pits and landing on the metal grates at the end of them. This extra four feet provided just the space needed for Mow to take flight on Tuesday afternoon. On his first jump, the senior captain landed at 22'1". After a foul on #2, he stood at the top of the runway for the final time. He charged toward the pit, exploded off the 12-foot board, and landed an even 23-feet into the sand for a new personal best. Along with Mow, junior Luis Linares-Gutierrez also benefitted from the extra room, as he hit a PR of 21'5.50", which gave him the Division 1 Championship standard. To keep going with the Class of 2026 theme, senior Franz Schroeder was at the top of his game against Arlington. He began the day with a strong throw of 188'6" to win the hammer. Then he moved over to the discus, where he found a personal best. Schroeder unleashed a bomb, 145'8" into the sector that picked up five points for his team. Finally, after a pair of 49 footers in the shot put, Schroeder finally got himself over the elusive 50-foot barrier, as his final throw landed at 50'3.50" to give another five points to the cause.
LHS's Bomb Squad has been anchored by senior captain Ainsley Cuthbertson for the last two years. On Tuesday, she got to add another chapter to her legacy. Cuthbertson spends the overwhelming majority of her time focused on her signature event, the hammer throw. However, always the team-first athlete, she puts as much energy as she can into the shot put and discus, which are scored at the Division 1 Championship. Against Arlington, Cuthbertson showed a glimpse of her talents in her "secondary" events as she broke her own facility record in the shot put with a throw of 40'4.25". That mark won the event by over 10 feet. Along with Cuthbertson's standout performance, fellow Class of 2026 teammate Felice Haverly (26.09) made her season debut in the 200m. The senior blasted around the turn and held on for a win, which gave her her Divisional qualifying mark. She was followed closely by sophomore Sabina Green, who delivered a PR of 26.40 seconds. After the sprinters finished lighting up the track, junior Callie Glenn toed the line in the 2 mile for the first time this spring. She led her teammates to break out the golden broom, and sweep the event with a Divisional qualifying mark of 11:32.79. Freshman Emma Kosnik, who PRed and also qualified for Divs with a time of 11:43.12, was the closest finisher to Glenn in the race.
