RESULTS

NEW BEDFORD, MA - Last year in the Whaling City, The Minutemen had their finest result at the MSTCA Division 1 Relays in program history, as both teams earned runner-up finishes. This year, the finish was even better. The Lex girls were dominant from beginning to end, and racked up an incredible 114 points on their way to victory over Newton North. The Tigers ended the meet 47 points behind LHS. That point total was the most scored by any team at the Division 1 Relays over, at least, the 15 years. On the boys' side, The Minutemen knew they would be in a tough battle with St. John's Prep. In the end, they gave the Eagles everything they could handle. Lexington scored 78 points on the backs of a balanced attack that saw them put up 43 in the field and 35 on the track. Despite blowing past the projections, Prep was able to hold off The Minutemen's charge, and took home the first place trophy with 93 points of their own.

The Lex girls made a statement right out of the gate that they would not be challenged on Saturday. LHS's first event of the day was the triple jump relay where their three-person relay each finished in the top six of the entire competition. Senior captain Aubrey Deardorf (36'11.75") led the way, as freshman Abbey Kohut (35'11.25"), and sophomore Sabina Green (35'1.75") both delivered personal bests. In the end, the relay's mark of 108'0.25" won over a three feet, and shattered the LHS record, set just last year, by over 10 feet. On the oval, LHS called on their distance depth in the 4x1600m relay, as they put out an 'A' and 'B' team. The 'B' team of junior Callie Glenn (5:08.1), freshman Emma Kosnik (5:34.3), junior Josie Bettencourt (5:38.6), and sophomore Ella Tyson (5:12.7) set the pace for the majority of the race. However, LHS's distance queen, sophomore Janie Conrad, delivered a furious anchor leg of 5:01.5 that brought the 'A' team - made up of sophomore Natalie Bielat (5:16.5), senior Meghan Caldera (5:44.1), and junior Alycia Charest (5:27.3) - all the way back to take the win with an overall time of 21:29.76. The 'B' team was just behind them, 17 seconds clear of third place, with a time of 21:34.18. With that, the Lex girls had already scored 38 total points, and proceeded to run away with the title.

Along the way to the championship, there were a number of signature moments for the Lex girls. In the sprint medley relay (200,200,400,800), superstar sophomore Amelia Whorton anchored the team of juniors Natalie Seed and Valesca Ellerman, along with freshman Zara Zaidi. Seed and Ellerman got the baton around the first lap in 55.5, and Zaidi ran a strong quarter mile in 60.6 to give Whorton a chance. When she received the baton, the LHS sophomore was in fifth place, nearly a full turn behind the leaders. Despite the distance, she thundered through the first 200m. By the time she hit the bell, she had brought her team up into second place, and was hot on the heels of the leader, Central Catholic. Whorton held on to Central Catholic's anchor throughout the next 300m, but still was behind as they approached the stretch. However, with a final surge, LHS's sophomore burst through to the finish, and grabbed victory after a sensational split of 2:08.6. In the end the team's time of 4:04.87 broke the previous LHS record set back in 2013 by current sprints coach, Alex Cox (LHS '16), as well as Camila Isern (LHS '13), Robin Gross (LHS '13), and Olivia Manickas-Hill (LHS '15). Along with the SMR, the discus relay also took down the school record on Saturday. Unfortunately, by the time the Lex girls got into the discus cage, rain had been falling steadily for over an hour. The discus, perhaps more than any other event in track & field, can be greatly impacted by rain. Wet circles combined with wet metal implements can take down even the most elite throwers (men's discus finals at 2025 World Championships). Senior captain Ainsley Cuthbertson, sophomore Evelyn Radcliffe, and freshman Naomi Hardy experienced this first hand on Saturday night. While their personal bests total up to over 350 feet, which would have broken the state record by over 30 feet, each struggled to even hit legal marks in the challenging conditions. In the end, the team still managed to win the event with a total distance of 293'4.25", which broke the school record set in 2024, but it was well below the team's lofty expectations. In the final event of the meet for LHS, nearly six hours after the she led her team to victory in the triple jump, Deardorf was back on the runway for the long jump relay. In recent weeks, the senior began to show signs of life in the event in which she earned All-American honors last spring. She eclipsed the 18-foot barrier for the first time this year a few weeks back, but took it to another level on Saturday night. After a lackluster first attempt, Deardorf charged down the runway, and exploded off the board into the wet sand. The official read out the distance of 5.82m, which sent her teammates into a frenzy after they realized that she had delivered her first 19-foot jump of the year. In the end, the mark of 19'1.25" was the best in the field by over a foot. Her mark, along with the jumps of Kohut (16'9.75"), and Wilkas (14'1") earned bronze, and broke the LHS record set last spring at this meet. In the end, it was the perfect exclamation point on an all-time performance by Lexington's girls.

While the Lex girls finished their nights with a huge performance in the long jump, LHS's boys used one to power them through the heart of the competition. Senior Simon Tandeih had just wrapped up a great run in the shuttle hurdle relay that led his team, which included senior Panos Kokkinias, and sophomores Yash Sankholkar, and Nick Perroud, to a silver medal win with a time of 1:02.88. He then immediately headed over to the runway where his flight was already underway. His first attempt was a solid mark, but after a foul on his second, he was still looking for that signature moment. Sure enough, on his final attempt, he delivered the way champions do. To the roar of his teammates who cheered him down the runway, The Captain flew out 7.28m (23'10.75"), which won the event by over a foot, and blew past the LHS record set nearly 20 years ago by Darius Walker (LHS '07). Tandeih's individual performance was immense as, along with the performances of senior Cleavon "the Frog Man" Manor Jr (22'3"), and fellow captain and classmate Amari Mow (21'10.25"), the trio broke the LHS record set just last year, and the Newton North's meet record that stood since 2008. Records in the jumps kept falling for The Minutemen on Saturday, five in all. Over on the high jump apron, Tandeih and the Frog Man teamed up with sophomore Henry Moehring. The two seniors both cleared the bar at 6'2", and with Moehring's jump of 5'7", finished second overall with a total height of 17'10.75". That mark bested the previous LHS record set in 2014 by the team of Quentin Clark, Samuel Andre, and Thomas O'Donoghue. Towards the end of the meet the Frog Man was back with Mow, and junior Luis Linares Gutierrez for the triple jump relay. After a pair of lackluster attempts, Manor Jr got himself out to 45'1.75". That mark, along with the jumps by Mow (40'7"), and Linares Gutierrez (40'4"), delivered the team a third place finish, and set yet another LHS record in the jumps, as they bested last year's team's mark.
