Burlington High School - Burlington, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - In a year full of breakout performances, perhaps no athletes has turned more heads for The Minutemen than freshman Will Webster. Along with the rest of LHS's pole vault squad, Webster traveled to Burlington on Thursday to compete in the Middlesex League's second vault competition of the season. After a stellar winter saw the freshman clear 9'6", things have only gone up this spring, and that was certainly the case on Thursday.
Webster opened at 9'6", but had trouble on his first two attempts, as he missed both. However, on his final attempt at the height he was clean over. He seemed to get in a groove from there, as he was clean over 10'0", took just two attempts to match his PR of 10'6", and then soared over a new personal best mark of 11'0" on his first jump. At that point, Webster was the only athlete left in the competition. He moved the bar up to 11'6", and despite a miss on his first jump, the freshman nailed his second attempt at the bar. Webster had three solid attempts at 12'1", but in the end settled for what was a sensational finish. With that performance, LHS's star freshman vaulter moved up into a tie for MA #2 among ninth graders in the event, as only Dover-Sherborn's Jack Smith (13'0"), who began vaulting as a sixth grader, has cleared a higher height this spring.
Other Highlight from the Meet
Up Next
The Minutemen have a busy weekend ahead, as athletes will compete in three separate meets over the next two days. Sophomores Janies Conrad and Ella Tyson will travel to White Plains, New York to compete in the 3200m and mile at the Loucks Games on Friday and Saturday. Also on Saturday, LHS's underclassmen will head to Woburn for the MSTCA Jim Hoar Freshman/Sophomore Meet. Finally, a group of Lexington distance runners will head over to Regis College for the Weston Twilight Invitational.
