SUN BREAKS THROUGH, WHILE CONRAD SHINES ON THE OVAL AT DAY 2 OF NBNO
Meet Information
New Balance Outdoor Nationals Day 2
June 19, 2026
Franklin Field - Philadelphia, PA
RESULTS
PHILADELPHIA, PA - After the girls' 4xMile squad electrified the night on Thursday with their All-American performance, The Minutemen were back at Franklin Field for Day 2 of the New Balance Nationals on Friday. While the day finished with a flurry on the oval, it was a freshman who kicked things off in the field events for Lexington.
Daniel Sun entered Lexington High School with high expectations after finishing 19th in the middle school shot put at last year's New Balance Nationals. Unfortunately, the pieces did not come together they way coaches predicted over the winter. Sun struggled with the heavier 12-pound ball, and fell short of the high expectations. However, this spring he exceeded all expectations when he picked up the discus. Sun was the champion of the event at the Freshman/Sophomore Meet, placed eighth at the Middlesex League Championship, and hit a huge PR that qualified him for Freshman Nationals, while placing eighth at the MIAA Division 1 Championship. With that backdrop, Sun entered the Mondschein Throwing Facility on Friday just looking to put an exclamation point on a tremendous Outdoor season. He did just that. After a solid first attempt, Sun unleashed the 1.4kg implement 148'3" into the sector. That throw was nearly five feet farther than his lifetime best, and landed him in 15th place overall. The mark also gives Sun the distinction as the best underclassmen discus thrower in LHS history.
Later in the afternoon LHS's distance queen, Janie Conrad, was back in action. Fresh off a leadoff leg for the 4xMile the night before, the Lexington's sophomore toed the line in the third section of the 2 mile. From the moment the gun fired, Conrad made sure that she would be in the action throughout. A strong pace from Potomac's (MD) Katherine Morey strung out the talented field, and throughout the second mile Conrad briefly took hold of the lead on multiple occasions. However, with a lap to go, the Potomac junior appeared to break free from Conrad's challenge, as she had put two seconds on her through the 3k split. Still, Conrad had one final burst in her. She ran a furious final stretch to cross the line just a few tenths behind Morey. Conrad's finish landed her with a personal best of 10:38.76, which was good enough to finish 29th overall.
