RANEY COMPETES FOR THE MINUTEMEN IN THE POLE VAULT FOR THE FINAL TIME

Picture
Meet Information
New England Championships
June 13, 2026
Noble Track - North Berwick, ME

RESULTS

NORTH BERWICK, ME - Saturday, senior captain Aidan Raney dawned the Lexington speed suit for the final time, as he traveled to Maine for the New England Championships. The meet features the top six athletes in every event from each of the New England states' all-state championships. For Raney, New Englands proved to be the culmination of a groundbreaking career in the pole vault, as finished tied for 11th with a mark of 13'3".

Beyond his performance on Saturday, though, Raney's career in an event that is often marginalized in Massachusetts leaves a lasting impact at Lexington High School. While Katie Atkins (LHS '24) had picked up the event the year prior to Raney's arrival to the team in 2023, she was the only vaulter The Minutemen had produced since the 1990s. Fast-forward four years, and the pole vault is the fastest growing event on the team. This spring, LHS boasted 11 vaulters, 7 of which scored at the Middlesex League Championships, and 4 that competed at the MIAA Division 1 Championships. To attribute all that growth and success to one athlete would be a bit of a stretch. However, the fact is that Raney (and Atkins) were pioneers in the event for Lexington. It was their willingness to step out of their comfort zones and try something new that led the team to invest time and resources to grow the vaulting program over the last half decade. On behalf of the coaches, we can not thank them enough for helping to raise the bar year after year for our team.
