A LATE-MEET SURGE HELPED THE MINUTEMEN FLIP THE SCRIPT ON READING

Meet Information
Reading Dual Meet
April 29, 2026
Lexington Center Track - Lexington, MA

RESULTS

LEXINGTON, MA - Wednesday afternoon, The Minutemen welcome archrival Reading to town. Reading's boys are in the middle of one of their finest year's in recent memory. The Rockets thumped The Minutemen during their cross country dual meet, and won both relays in dramatic fashion to earn a comeback victory on the track this past winter. Reading carried that momentum to the post-season where they won the Division 3 state title over perennial power, Walpole. Needless to say Lexington's boys had this one circled on their calendars. After and action packed meet that saw the Rockets charge out to an early double-digit lead, The Minutemen roared back in the second half to win by a score of 77-59. Meanwhile the Lex girls continued to dominate, as they took home a 96-40 victory of their own.

Reading came out of the gate strong, and built an early lead on the backs of a one-two finish in the 400m hurdles, and a one-three finish in the mile. Down by a score of 14 to 4, Lexington's captain loaded into the blocks in the 110m hurdles to make his presence known. Simon Tandeih burst off the line, and fired over the 10 barriers to a sensational victory with a time of 14.43 seconds. Along with the five much needed points, Tandeih's performance took down the LHS record in the event set by Ryan Zhang (LHS '25) just last spring, and is now the 12th school record to his name. While the win got his team going, the Rockets were dropping bombs all over the field events. They picked up nine points in the javelin, capped off by a 192-foot throw by senior Luke Rogerson. And, would have delivered a potentially crushing blow in the triple jump if not for senior Cleavon Manor Jr's incredible performance. "The Frog Man" stepped on the runway for his first attempt, and made a statement that he would not be beat by anyone on Wednesday. Manor Jr broke the 45-foot barrier for the first time in his career, as he landed 45'0.25" - nearly three feet farther than his opponents from Reading - into the sand. That huge jump allowed him the ability to pass his next two attempts so he could focus on preparing for the high jump. Meanwhile, over at discus cage LHS's Bomb Squad was holding the line for The Minutemen. Seniors Franz Schroeder (145'2") and Wahid Ibrahim (129'11") both delivered personal best throws that secured eight points, as the pair finished first and second.

Back on the oval, the meet came to the 800m. By that point, Reading had built a 12-point lead, and things were beginning to look like they might get away from The Minutemen. In that race sophomore Matteo Sanchez de Rojas and junior Arjun Raha were called on to square off against Reading's Cameron Gigler. The Reading senior put the nail in Lexington's coffin as the fifth man across the line for the Rockets in the fall, and did the same thing as a member of the 4x4 relay that sealed the win for them in the winter. However, Wednesday proved to be a different story. Raha went to the lead from the start, and drove the pace hard through the opening quarter mile. As they approached the backstretch for the final time, Gigler moved up to Raha's shoulder to make his move. Raha withstood the pressure, and held the lead as they approached the turn. At that point Sanchez de Rojas began to see the Reading senior falter, and he made his move to overtake him. Down the homestretch, Lexington's duo pulled away, and crossed the line first and second to pick up eight big points. Sanchez de Rojas (2:00.32) ended up taking the win, with Raha (2:00.77) just behind him. Then, just as the two finished, over on the high jump apron, Tandeih soared over the bar at 6'0", which put him and Manor Jr in the driver's seat to pick up another eight points with a one-two finish of their own. In the end, the pair both made it over 6'2". With that, the momentum was firmly in The Minutemen's corner. And, after junior Cayden "Showtime" Chambers (22.58) picked up three points in the 200m, LHS had pulled within one point of the Rockets, 49-50.

With five events to go, and both teams doing everything they could do get to the magic win number of 69, Lexington called on their distance squad to deliver a potential knockout blow in the 2 mile. The Rockets posted their two best distance runners, Middlesex League XC MVP, Tim Connolly, and Andrew Princic. LHS countered with junior Patrick Noonan, sophomore Rhys Behling, senior captain Liam Singh, and sophomore Andrew Zhang. Noonan made it clear early on that he would not be beaten. A 2:20 through the opening 800 gapped the field, and he continued to pour it on over the next six laps. As the LHS junior came around the final turn, he gave a look over his shoulder to finally realize that he had laid waste the field, and cruised home to victory with a time of 9:36.92. Meanwhile the real action was between Lexington's pack and the Reading duo. The group approached the mile in 4:54, and by that point Connolly had begun to fall off the back, which set up a battle between Behling, Singh, Zhang, and Princic. With Behling at the front, Lexington's athletes continued to drive hard pace over the next two laps, and, with that effort, were able to break away from the Reading junior. In the end, LHS broke out the platinum broom as Behling (9:50.59) finished second, Singh (9:53.35) came in third, and Zhang (9:58.19) claimed fourth, which moved the score to 58-50 in Lexington's favor. A victory in the 4x1 gave LHS five more points, and meant that all they needed was six more to seal the win. Sure enough, those points came for The Minutemen. In the long jump, where Lexington had its full arsenal of 22-foot jumpers waiting, the team managed a first and third place finish. Despite battling a major illness, senior captain Amari Mow was adamant that he was going to compete for his team against Reading. In his third event of the day, the Marquette University commit exploded off the board, and landed 22'4" to the pit. That jump was over a foot clear of second place, and secured five points for his team. The all important sixth point came from the Frog Man who crashed down at 20'10" to grab third place, and seal a very hard fought victory for The Minutemen.

While the meet did not share the same level of drama on the girls' side, Wednesday proved to be a breakout day for senior captain Aubrey Deardorf. Already the most decorated long jumper in program history, against Reading, the Quinnipiac University commit was pulled into the triple jump for the second time in her career. After two solid attempts, on her third, and final jump of the afternoon, Deardorf blasted 37'4.50" into the pit. That mark ranks her MA #2 in the event, to go along with her MA #6 ranking in the long jump. Along with her big day in the triple, Deardorf also took down her Reading rival Kamryn Encarnacao in the 100m, as she ran a personal best of 12.50 seconds. On the oval, perhaps the most exciting race of the afternoon came in the first event of the day. Senior Felice Haverly and sophomore Sarojini Nath squared off in the 400m hurdles in what was a classic dual between "the sprinter" (Haverly boasts a PR of 58.37 in the 400m) and "the hurdler" (Nath's 400m has PRs of 1:05.64 for 400m, and 1:08.59 in the 400H). The pair fired out from the blocks, with Haverly getting to an early lead. However, Nath was smooth over each barrier, and held a slight lead as the pair reached the top of the homestretch. As they cleared the final hurdle, Haverly turned on the gas, and edged out Nath at the line with a personal best mark of 1:09.01. Nath settled for a hard-fought second place with a season best of 1:09.65. Another highlight for the Lex girls came in the 200m, as the sprint squad busted out the golden broom to sweep the event. Sophomore Sabina Green ran a personal best, and MIAA Division 1 qualifying time of 26.60 seconds. Meanwhile, juniors Natalie Seed (27.43) and Marissa Hao (27.44) dipped under the Middlesex League Championship standard, as each delivered personal bests.
