RESULTS
WARWICK, RI - As is tradition, The Minutemen cross state lines to compete in the Ocean State Invitational. This meet has served as a mid-season measuring stick for LHS's Cross Country team for years, as its fantastic course and high end competition at the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity levels help bring out the best in everyone who competes at Goddard State Park. After the Boys and Girls finished eighth and 13th respectively in last year's Championship Race, The Minutemen made a big jump up the standings this year. The Boys finished fifth overall with 149 points. B.C. High won the title with 82 points. Meanwhile, the Lex Girls finished seventh overall with 154 points. The girls from Billerica took home the title with 79 points.
Highlights from the Freshman Division
The Minutemen had a talented trio of freshmen in the Boys 4k Race. While St. John's Shrewsbury's Benjamin Barron flew to the lead and won going away, three of the next four across the line were all wearing the blue and gold of Lexington. Ethan Wang (13:52.0) and Rhys Behling (13:54.1) earned silver and bronze in a race with 247 athletes, and Andrew Zhang (13:56.5) landed in fifth place overall. Along with the big-three, Rohan Banerji (14:43.5) and Justin Sun (16:35.1) helped land their team in second place in the team scoring. On the girls' side, as is typical, LHS's top freshmen were tapped for the Championship Race. That meant some new faces got to step into the spotlight and deliver for their team. Isabella Gorospe (17:23.1) led the way for the Lex Girls with a 10th place finish. Next was Talia Rech (17:26.9) who landed in 12th.
