LEX GIRLS ROLL AGAIN; THE BOYS FALL TO AN ALL-TIME EFFORT FROM READING
Meet Information
Reading Dual Meet
October 1, 2024
Lincoln Field - Lexington, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - After the big invitational in the Ocean State this past weekend, The Minutemen decided to rest many of their top athletes for Tuesday's meet against Reading. While this certainly took some of the luster off the rivalry meet against the Rockets, those that did compete for Lexington turned in very strong performances up and down the roster. In the end, it was not enough for the Boys as the Rockets blasted their way to a 23 to 32 victory. The Lex Girls faired much better, as they took home their fourth win of the dual meet season by a score of 21-40.
While in the end the score did not indicate it, the Boys Race turned out to be a tight one, save for the top-two finishers. From the gun, Reading junior Tim Connolly and senior Chris Barbato attacked Lexington's home course. Out in just under five minutes for the mile, they continued to pour it on over the hills. Connolly crossed the line in 15:48.02 to win the race in a time that broke Trevor Stevens' course record set earlier this season. For his efforts, Barbato (16:15.00) landed #7 on the all-time list with his finish. With Connolly and Barbato in, The Minutemen had some work to do to try and grab victory. In the final mile, a pack of nine runners - six Lexington and 3 Reading - had formed. As they appeared at Lincoln Field the issue was still very much in doubt. Junior Liam Singh was able to pull away to place third in a personal best 17:05.93. He was followed by freshman Ethan Wang (17:08.82) who turned in a massive personal best, as he covered Lexington's 5k course nearly 40 seconds faster than his previous PR. While Wang was able to hold off the hard charge of Reading senior Rory O'Neil, who finished just behind the freshman, when Reading's Andrew Princic crossed the line next it sealed the win for the Rockets. Lexington sophomore Alden Hall (17:13.39) and junior Sam Finch (17:14.21) both had strong performances to finish seventh and eighth respectively. Freshman Rhys Behling was the fifth man for LHS with a PR of 17:14.61, and he was followed closely by sophomore Eric House (17:15.01). Junior Colin Ryan (17:34.12), senior James Joseph (17:35.98), and sophomore Frankie Remick (18:11.20) were next for The Minutemen. Junior Stefanos Kontothanassis turned in a PR of 18:29.70 as LHS's final varsity finisher.
The Lex Girls had their depth on full display on Tuesday. Despite not having their top-six athletes in the lineup, they easily grounded the Rockets. Reading senior Molly Hackett won the race in a time of 20:13.47. However, she was followed by four Lexington runners. Junior captain Thayer DiCerbo turned in perhaps the best performance of her career as she crossed the line in 20:29.15 to lead The Minutemen. Senior Brett Castro (21:25.93) was next, followed by fellow classmate Claire Cunningham. The captain's time of 21:11.37 placed her fourth overall, and was just ahead of freshman Talia Rech (22:14.81) who continues to make massive strides in her inaugural high school campaign. Senior Leontine Meunier was the Lex Girls' fifth finisher in a time of 22:49.28. Junior Prachi Aggarwal (23:11.90), freshman Addie Haiar (23:30.88), and senior Tanvi Samavedam (23:43.84) all finished right in a row to cover the seven through 10 spots in the overall results. And, it was junior Sophie Kuo who was the final varsity finisher on the day for The Minutemen with a time of 23:58.63.
