LEXINGTON, MA - It had been 1,113 days since the Class of 2025 first toed the line on LHS's home course. Tuesday, against Winchester, marked the final time in their high school careers they would be able to don the blue and gold for The Minutemen as they charged up Baskin and Loring. After a pair of losses with a less than full squad, LHS's Boys were back on top as they won decisively over the Red and Black by a score of 24 to 37. On paper, the undefeated Lex Girls were in for a much more competitive meet as Winchester also came in with an unblemished record. However, after Tuesday it was made inescapably clear who was the class of the Middlesex League's Liberty Division. The Minutemen won by a score of 18-45, as they took seven of the top eight places in the varsity race.
The Girls Race was off to a fast start as star freshman Janie Conrad was out to an early lead with a 6:15 opening mile. The ninth grader continued to pour it on over the next two miles and won the race going away in a sensational time of 19:06.49. That performance was the seconded fastest time ever run on LHS's 5k home course. Behind Conrad, sophomore Callie Glenn charged through the line in a season best time of 19:44.19 to earn second place for her team. After Winchester's Riley Newman crossed the line in third place, the Lex Girls put an emphatic stamp on their victory. Sophomores Erin Ehmann (19:56.30) and Alycia Charest (19:59.51) finished fourth and fifth respectively with season bests. Freshman Ella Tyson turned in her finest performance of her young career as LHS's all-important fifth runner. Her time of 20:08.32 was enough for sixth place overall. Junior captains Thayer DiCerbo (20:14.37) and Meghan Caldera (20:15.29) were next across the line with a pair of season bests. Then it was senior Brett Castro, who's hard push from the top of the homestretch brought her across the line in 20:43.62. Castro was followed closely by sophomore Josie Bettencourt (20:49.64). Finally, it is was senior captain Claire Cunningham (21:49.08) who ran a lifetime best on the home course to close out her career competing in Lexington.
In the Boys Race sophomore Patrick Noonan and Winchester senior Nicholas Walker battled it out for the overall win. Noonan appeared at Lincoln Field with a 10-meter lead. However, Walker rallied himself and with a push down the final stretch won the race in 16:09.73. Noonan came across in second in 16:13.46. Those times landed the pair #4 and #6 on the LHS home course's all-time. With that, the 2024 season has produced five of the top-10 times ever run on the course. After Winchester's Owen Bernstein crossed the line in the third place, it was a stampede of blue and gold. Sophomore Caleb Ford showed that he is beginning to return to the form that made him one of the best freshman in Massachusetts Cross Country last fall, as he ran 16:57.22 to place fourth. Senior captain Max Zhang broke the elusive 17-minute barrier on the home course for the first time with a time of 16:58.98. Sophomore Owen Ross was next in a time of 17:01.02. Junior Liam Singh (17:15.87) was LHS's fifth man and finished seventh overall. Senior Will Fletcher (17:19.92) also turned in a lifetime best on the home course in his final race in Lexington. He was followed closely by freshman Ethan Wang (17:20.78). Seniors Daniel Weir (17:30.52) and Nathan Cunningham (17:44.70) rounded out the varsity finishers for The Minutemen as they crossed the line in 10th and 11th place respectively.
