Ocean State Invitational
September 27, 2025
Goddard State Park - Warwick, RI

RESULTS

WARWICK, RI - The Minutemen made the trip across state lines to compete in the annual Ocean State Invitational at Goddard Park. Each fall, this meet is the lone invitational on the calendar that brings the entire team together to compete against some of the best high school runners in the Northeast. And compete they did. Over 4 hours, LHS athletes competed in 9 races, won 4 of them, and finished on the podium in 3 more. However, the highlight of the meet came in the most highly anticipated Girls Championship Race.

The Championship Race featured the Lex girls, up against the two teams they will have to go through if they want to earn their first state cross country championship in a decade, Westford Academy and Billerica. When the gun fired, Westford Academy's All-American Abigail Hennessy went right to the front. The Massachusetts record holder for the Mile drove a hard pace early and won convincingly in 17:35.7. LHS's star sophomore Janie Conrad turned in a sensational effort to place sixth overall in 18:28.4. It was then, that the girls from Billerica made themselves known. After Westford Academy's Emily Wedlake crossed the line 12th, Billerica came through in 13th, 18th, and 19th place, with the latter two girls finishing tenths-of-a-second ahead of juniors Erin Ehmann and Callie Glenn. LHS's duo finished 20th and 21st respectively with identical times of 19:26.0. However, LHS sophomore Ella Tyson was right their to respond. She finished 23rd overall in a time of 19:36.5,
which put her team in the drivers' seat for the title. Then, Westford Academy's third runner came through just behind Tyson, but when LHS's junior captain Alycia Charest (19:58.0) crossed the line in 28th place, she clinched the title for her team. Not to be overlooked, freshman Emma Kosnik delivered a strong performance to finish 36th with a time of 20:17.7. Senior captain Meghan Caldera (20:58.9) was 49th. Together, the team's efforts earned them the distinction of being the first LHS girls team in history to walk away from Goddard State Park with the 1st place plaque from the Championship Race.

Final Girls Team Scores (Top 5)
1. Lexington - 63
2. Westford Academy - 76

3. Billerica - 86
4. Paul VI (NJ) - 118
5. Winchester - 136

In the Boys Championship Race, The Minutemen were poised to compete for the title. However, things got off to a rocky start as six of LHS's seven runners found themselves in the back half of the race early on, with only junior Patrick Noonan able to get himself up with the leaders by the mile. The race was out in a blistering pace, which led Noonan through the mile in 4:52, despite sitting 10th overall. A ways back, the group of sophomore Rhys Behling, juniors Alden Hall, Holden Cassity and Owen Ross, along with senior captain Liam Singh, and sophomore Andrew Zhang had spread out by the mile, with already 10 seconds in between them. After the mile, Behling was in second place for LHS and began what was a tremendous run in the latter half of the race. He emerged out of the woods having caught Noonan, and the two carried each other down the final stretch to the finish. In the end it was Noonan (16:27.7) who came across first in 10th place overall and Behling (16:28.4) was just a step behind in 11th. Unfortunately, the rest of Lexington's pack was not able to close the gap the way Behling did. Hall came through 37th overall in 16:55.3, followed by Cassity (16:57.5) who was 40th. Singh (17:13.7) and Zhang (17:16.8) were next, as the two finished 51st and 52nd respectively. Ross battled his way through nearly the entire race without one of his shoes, but still managed to finish 66th in 17:27.9. In the end The Minutemen competed well, but finished second with 117 points to St. John's Prep. The Eagles took home the title with a score of 93 points.

Highlights from the Varsity Division
For the first time in team history the Lex girls boasted the kind of depth necessary to field a team in the Championship Race as well as the Varsity Race. The team, led by senior captain Thayer DiCerbo, held their own against many of the region's top squads. DiCerbo spearheaded her team with an 11th place finish in a time of 20:45.7. She was followed sophomore Daphne Warren, who finished 28th in 21:18.7. Next across the line was Josie Bettencourt. The junior's time of 21:30.7 landed her 35th overall. It was sophomore Addie Haiar (21:52.3) who crossed the line 50th. And, fellow classmate Isabella Gorospe (22:06.1) came across in 62nd place to earn the bronze medal for her team. Senior Prachi Aggarwal (22:26.1) and junior Allie Galloway (23:22.2) were the final two finishers for LHS, as they landed 76th and 114th respectively.

While the boys in the Championship Race got split up early, LHS's crew that toed the line in the Varsity Race were welded together much of the way. With a 1-5 delta of just 16 seconds, the team of seniors Sam Finch, Will Parker and Owen Kuder, along with junior Eric House, and sophomores Ethan Wang and Matteo Sanchez de Rojas won a landslide victory with 116 points. Nashua North (NH) was the closest competitor with 213 points. Finch led the way for The Minutemen with a 13th place finish in 17:08.1. Parker was next in 17:18.3, which placed him 22nd overall. Wang (17:21.5) just out-leaned Kuder (17:21.7) at the line as the pair finished 25th and 26th respectively. House ran a furious final stretch to finish off the scoring for LHS. His time of 17:24.4 placed him 30th overall. Sanchez de Rojas (17:51.3) came through in 56th overall as well.

Highlights from the JV Division
The Boys JV section was split into two divisions. In the A Race, The Minutemen were dominant. Their top five runners finished first, second, third, fifth, and sixth, on their way to a near perfect score of 17 points. Junior Gabriel Ostrower took home gold with a time of 17:55.9. Sophomore Rohan Banerji earned silver with a time of 17:59.2. Senior Colin Ryan (18:08.6) led much of the way, but settled for bronze as his teammates caught him in the final half mile. Arjun Raha had the best race of his cross country career as he crossed the line in a perfectly even split 18:13.3. Senior Sean Ryan rounded out the top five with a time of 18:14.7. Not to be overlooked, sophomore Jayant Krishnan also landed inside the top 10. Krishnan finished ninth in 18:29.5. While The Minutemen were nearly perfect in the A Race, they achieved it in the B Race. Sophomore Gabriel Model (19:15.0) made his season debut with a victory. He was followed by senior Colin Smith (19:31.7), junior Bennett Webster (19:47.9), junior Patrick Puscasu (19:50.1), and junior Ben Davis (19:52.3). LHS's boys broke out the golden broom to sweep the top five places and delivered cross country's version of a perfect game with a score of 15 points. Along with the stellar performances by the boys, the Lex girls were led by sophomore Talia Rech, who finished seventh in the JV Race with a time of 23:37.8.

Highlights from the Freshman Division
Expectations were high headed into the Boys Freshman Race, as LHS knew Kiran Green was capable of competing for the title. When the gun fired, Green laid off the quick early pace before making his move in the second mile of the 4k course. From there, Green poured it on. He came out of the woods well clear of his nearest competitor and cruised down the homestretch by the Lexington contingent, who was roaring him home, to a winning time of 13:39.9. Along with Green's big day, Andrew Dulgarian delivered a 20th place finish in a time of 14:55.1. He was followed closely by Ben Wszolek (15:01.6), who crossed the line in 24th overall. Evan McPhee was fourth for The Minutemen - 34th overall - in a time of 15:29.5. Ben Parker was the all-important fifth man for LHS. He finished with a time of 15:37.3, which placed him 40th and earned the team the 3rd place plaque. The Lex girls were led in the Freshman Race by Beatrix Koch-Kochrane who gutted through the race to finish 26th overall in a time of 18:15.0. Victoria Davidson was the other top 30 finisher for LHS, as she finished 28th in 18:20.1.

Up Next
It will be a quick turnaround for The Minutemen as they are back in action this Tuesday, September 30th to face off against Woburn. On the boys' side, the Tanners got the best of Lexington last year in Woburn as they swept the top three places to secure a 29-30 victory. The excitement is always heightened when these two teams square off, and Tuesday should be no exception. Action begins at Lincoln Field at 4:15pm. Live results can be found HERE.
