LEXINGTON'S GIRLS DEFEND HOME TURF; BOYS FALL TO ARLINGTON
Meet Information
Arlington Dual Meet

Lincoln Field - Lexington, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - On Tuesday The Minutemen opened up Middlesex League action, as they welcomed Arlington to town. After putting on a racing clinic this past Saturday at the Manchester Invitational, most of the top girls rested on Tuesday. That gave a number of new faces the opportunity to step up, compete for their team, and show what they were made of at this early point in the season. Sure enough, Lexington's girls came through in fine fashion. They took down Arlington by a score of 25-34. Unfortunately the top boys did not have the same fire in them, as The Minutemen fell to the Spy Ponders 33 to 23.
Sophomore Emma Kosnik led the way for the Lex girls in their home opener. She burst out to the front of the race with a 6:17 opening mile, and eventually pulled away to earn the victory with time of 20:08.9. Josie Bettencourt was next through the finish for Lexington. The senior delivered a time of 20:41.3 to finish third overall. After a pair of Arlington girls came in, an onslaught of LHS athletes slammed the door shut on the Spy Ponders. Freshman Anjali Pandya (20:49.3) made her high school debut over 5k with a sixth place finish. Fellow classmate Julia Thiel was next in 21:29.0. Lexington's fifth runner came in the form of Sophia Alexanian (21:45.0). From there it was a pair of juniors, Isabella Gorospe (21:51.8) and Addie Haiar (22:03.1), followed by sophomore Victoria Davidson (22:22.5), and freshman Ellie Rech (22:22.7) who all came in ahead of Arlington's fourth runner. Rounding out the top-10 for the Lex girls was sophomore Beatrix Koch-Cochrane (22:53.7).
It was a tough day on the boys' side of the card. After falling to The Minutemen each of the last three years by narrow margins, the Spy Ponders came to Lexington with a mission that they executed to near perfection. Arlington's Owen Merrill (16:16.1) won the race with the 10th fastest time ever run on Lexington's challenging course. After seniors Alden Hall (16:25.5) and Trevor Stevens (16:39.4) came across the line for The Minutemen, Arlington put four straight finishers in, and buried LHS's hopes of coming away with a victory on Tuesday. Senior Owen Ross (17:07.8) finished eighth overall, and was followed by a very strong performance from Andrew Dulgarian. The sophomore struggled to navigate the extremely challenging course at Derryfield Park this past weekend, but clearly used that experience to his advantage on Tuesday. He finished ninth overall with a time of 17:13.9. The rest of Lexington's varsity squad all came right in a row. Juniors Matteo Sanchez de Rojas (17:21.9), Rohan Banerji (17:24.4), Ethan Wang (17:26.5), Gabe Model (17:27.3), and freshman Ares Beaver (17:28.4) were 11th through 15th respectively.
Up Next
With a nor'easter in the forecast for this weekend, conditions will be less than ideal for The Minutemen as they travel to Rhode Island for the annual Ocean State Invitational. The meet - which is slated to feature every top ranked team from Massachusetts - will be the next opportunity for Lexington to hone their competitive edge. Action begins at Goddard State Park in East Greenwich on Saturday, September 26th at 8:45am.
