THE MINUTEMEN RETURN TO THEIR WINNING WAYS AGAINST THE TANNERS
Meet Information
Woburn Dual Meet
September 29, 2026
Horn Pond - Woburn, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - After the nor'easter canceled Lexington's trip to the Ocean State over the weekend, The Minutemen were still looking to get the taste of a frustrating defeat against Arlington out of their mouths. They did that and then some on Tuesday in Woburn. LHS's boys were dominant from start to finish. They took nine of the top 10 places in route to an 18-45 victory over the Tanners. The Lex girls continued their strong opening season, as they swept the top 12 spots to earn the win with a perfect score of 15-50.
From the gun, seniors Owen Ross and Ben Sbihli went to the front of the pack and dictated the terms of the race. They cruised through the mile at 5:18, just strides ahead of the pack, but as they came to the two-mile mark Ross had opened up a lead over Sbihli, who was joined by sophomore Kiran Green, with Woburn's David Harrington not far behind. The course at Horn Pond is generally flat, with the only significant hill coming around 1km to go in the race. It was there that Sbihli made his move. As the race approached the final stretch, Sbihli had overtaken Ross. With less than 200m to go, and Harrington making one final charge for the win, Ross dug deep, and clipped Sbihli at the line for the victory with a time of 16:03. Sbihli finished second, and was credited with a time of 16:04. Next across the line was Matteo Sanchez de Rojas. The junior ran a smart opening half of the race, and used a very strong final mile to cross the line in 16:22. Freshman Ares Beaver scored the first varsity points of his high school career on Tuesday, as he crossed the line fifth with a time of 16:23. Gabe Model (16:26) also earned his first ever varsity points. The junior was The Minutemen's all-important fifth man, and placed sixth overall. Rounding out the top-10 for LHS was Green (16:26) and fellow classmate Andrew Dulgarian (16:27), along with junior Jay Krishnan (16:29), senior Gabriel Ostrower (16:43), and junior Ethan Wang (16:59).
The girls race saw the season debut of a pair of Lexington's senior stalwarts. Erin Ehmann and captain Alycia Charest have both been recovering from injury, throughout the early weeks of the season. All that anticipation clearly put a charge in them early on, as the pair opening their first half mile in a sizzling two-minutes and fifty-seconds. Ehmann and Charest might have been a little overambitious at the start, on what was an uncharacteristically humid afternoon. The duo definitely paid for the price for the quick opening stretch, and came back down to earth over the latter half of the race. In the end, Ehmann broke the tape with a time of 19:08, and Charest followed just behind in 19:11. Freshman Lucia Cassano delivered a great performance in her high school varsity debut. Cassano was pulled out fast by the top girls, but spent much of the race on her own. In the end, the freshman finished third in 19:23. Fellow classmate Anjali Pandya ran a more controlled effort from start to finish, and crossed the line fourth in 19:28. Senior Josie Bettencourt placed fifth with a time of 19:46. Freshman Julia Thiel delivered a time of 20:01 to finish sixth overall. Then it was sophomore Beatrix Koch-Cochrane (20:09) in seventh. Junior Isabella Gorospe (20:25) and freshman Sophia Alexanian (20:40) were next, with junior Abelia Wood finishing 10th overall with a time of 21:06.

As the calendar flips to October, The Minutemen will return home to face their archrivals from Reading. While Lexington's boys have had the upper hand at the League Championships each of the last three years, the Rockets have not dropped a dual meet to The Minutemen since 2022. Action begins at 4:15pm on Tuesday, October 6th, for what is sure to be a classic battle between these two Middlesex League powers.
