ANDOVER, MA - The Lexington Minutemen were up in Andover this weekend to compete at the annual Andover Boosters Invitational. On the Girls side, it was sophomore Chrisondra Awomah who had the highlight of the meet. Her throw of 36'0" in the Shot Put, tied the 28 year old school record in the event and placed her fourth in the meet. Awomah has a personal best of 36'6" with the indoor shot put, if she continues her strong year there is no doubt she will not own the outdoor record outright by the end of this season. For the Boys it was another sophomore, Josh Backert, leading the way. Backert's time of 51.32 seconds in the 400 meter dash was a personal best and enough for a runner up finish in the event, which was also The Minutemen's highest finish on the weekend. He would later finish 11th in the Triple Jump (39'7").
In addition to these strong efforts there were a pair of Division 1 Championship qualifying performances turned in by The Minutemen. Senior Dan Crooke's leap of 20'6" was a season best and good enough for seventh place overall in the Long Jump. While sophomore Lily Sheth ran a personal best of 1:00.92 in the 400 meter dash, which in addition to qualifying her for the Division 1 Meet was also a personal best.
Throughout the rest of the meet The Minutemen's distance team shined with personal and season bests in both the Mile and 2 Mile. To lead off Saturday's action for the Girls, a pair of freshmen broke the 6-minute barrier for the first time in the Freshmen/Sophomore Mile. Lauren Sterne and Isabel Jakimczyk ran 5:57.97 and 5:58.69 respectively. Junior Kesinia Sortor turned in a huge season best time of 12:03.16 in the 2 Mile, which place her fifth. She was followed up by senior Anna Kohlasch's personal best time of 12:31.95. As the meet wore deep into the night, sophomore Isabel Siu-Zmuidzinas ran a big personal best in the mile and finished in a time of 5:45.93. The Boys side featured freshmen Max Di Cerbo running a personal best of 4:51.00 in the Freshmen/Sophomore Mile, which placed him seventh. Then it was sophomore Matt McAlarney who turned in a personal best of 10:17.29, and was followed by senior Jack Mitchell with a personal best of his own (10:40.67) in the 2 Mile.
