Arlington Dual Meet

Boston University Indoor Track & Tennis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Friday morning The Minutemen headed into Boston to face off against the Spy Ponders of Arlington. Both teams were missing a number of runners due to the winter break from school but despite this, those athletes who competed for LHS turned in some great performances leading to a pair of W's. In the girls meet, The Minutemen turned in a convincing victory by a score of 74-26. Not to be outdone, the boys defeated Arlington 83-15.
The girls meet was highlighted by senior captain Rachel Caldwell-Glixon "RCG." LHS's multi-event specialist recently committed to Lehigh University, and she showed that early in this season she is in D1 form. RCG began her day by winning the 55m High Hurdles in 9.53 seconds. She followed that up by winning the High Jump with a leap of 5'0", qualifying for the Division 1 Championships. Then finished off her day with another D1 qualifying mark of 16'11.25" to win the Long Jump. Along with RCG's big day, the meet saw the return of superstar sprinter Aleia Gisolfi-McCready. The junior won the 300m in a League qualifying time of 43.69 seconds before anchoring the 4x200m Relay of senior captain Keena Gao, sophomore Mari McBride, and junior Eileen Cannon to victory in a Divisional qualifying time of 1:49.00.
In the boys meet, senior Josh Backert put on a show in the 600m. Josh led his twin brother Selvin (1:26.33), and fellow classmate Jack Stevens (1:30.65) through the 400 in a brisk 54 seconds before blowing away the field over the final lap, crossing the finish line in 1:23.66 en route a sweep for LHS. That time is the fastest time run in Massachusetts so far in this young season. In addition to Josh Backert's state leading performance, Micah Benson used a 2:19 final 800m to turn in a winning time of 9:47.49 in the 2 Mile. His time was not only a Division 1 qualifying mark but MA #2 in the event. Not to bury the lead, but in the Weight Throw - which was not a scored event - senior Michael Gupta launched the 25lb weight a personal best 63'5.5". That mark improved upon his school record and qualified him for the New Balance Indoor Nationals in March.
