BOSTON, MA - Sunday The Minutemen traveled to Boston for the MSTCA Coaches Invitational. The meet offered athletes the opportunity for one final tune-up against much of the top talent the State has to offer before Championship Season begins in eight short days. After over six hours of competition it is clear that The Minutemen are firing on all cylinders with numerous PRs and podium finishes turned in.
On the girls side of the meet no one stood taller than LHS's superstar sprinter, Aleia Gisolfi-McCready. The junior began her day in the 300m where she ran a season best of over a second to place fourth overall in a time of 41.70. She then came back to anchor the 4x200m Relay of senior captain Keena Gao, sophomore Mari McBride, and fellow classmate Eileen Cannon with a 25.2 unofficial split. The team's time of 1:46.94 was a season best and good enough for the bronze medal. After the 4x200, Gisolfi-McCready and Cannon were back in the 4x400m Relay along with junior Catherine Movsessian and senior captain Lily Sheth. The quartet won the unseeded section in a season best 4:08.55. That time held up through the seeded section for fifth place overall.
For the boys there were a number of strong performances but no one stood taller than senior distance runner Micah Benson. The Minutemen's top harrier cruised through his first mile in a brisk 4:47, sitting third while Hopkinton's Alex Brown set the pace. With 800 meters to go Brown and Benson broke away from the pack and a classic dual broke out between the two seniors. The pair fought it out for the next 600 meters, trading the lead multiple times before Benson threw down one final move to break Brown and catapult himself to victory in a huge personal best time of 9:30.32. Benson's time is the fastest run anywhere in Massachusetts and ranks him US #32 in the 2 Mile.
