BOSTON, MA - On Saturday afternoon The Minutemen were back at Reggie Lewis for the annual relay meet. In a test of the two squads' respective depths, LHS came out of the meet with a pair of first place finishes, two more school records, and on the girls side a second place trophy. The boys showed well in their own right by finishing fourth out of 21 teams.
For the girls the highlight of the meet came from the Long Jump Relay trio of seniors Keena Gao, Rachel Caldwell-Glixon, and Anna Yang. The three jumpers combined to leap 48'2.50" to smash a LHS record which had stood since 2001 by over a foot. In addition to the record breaking performance, the trio's distance placed them second overall. Not to be outdone, the girls 4x200m Relay of Gao, freshman Emma Hu, sophomore Mari McBride, and junior Aleia Gisolfi-McCready ran 1:48.18 to blow away the field by three seconds en route to the girls lone event victory.
On the boys side, it was the Shot Put Relay of seniors Michael Gupta, Yianni Zavaliagkos, and Jarret Dlugy who were smashing records. The LHS "Bomb Squad" combined to throw 127'6.75", breaking their own school record set two winters ago, and placing sixth in Saturday's competition. In the Distance Medley Relay the team of sophomore Evan Eberle teamed up with seniors Jack Stevens, Selvin Backert and Micah Benson to run a tremendous race, which included a 4:29 1600m leg by Benson to take the victory in a MA #3 time of 10:41.78.
