RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - In the final Middlesex League Dual meet held at BU this Indoor Season, The Minutemen went up against traditional powerhouse Reading. Despite the program's historical credentials, the 2020 version of the Rockets were no match for LHS in the boys or girls. The boys won convincingly by a score of 78.66 to 21.33, while the girls took the victory by a score of 71 to 29. With the two wins, both of The Minutemen's squads now sit at 4-0 with only Winchester standing between them and a Liberty Division title.
On the girls side, the meet began with some back and forth between Lexington and Reading, as the Rockets took the win in the 55m Dash before LHS senior Rachel Caldwell-Glixon won the 55m High Hurdles in 9.48 seconds. However the event that truly put The Minutemen in the driver's seat was the 300m, where LHS broke out the golden broom for a clean sweep of the top three places. Sophomore Mari McBride bested her teammate Eileen Cannon by one-thousandth of a second as they were both credited with season best times of 43.99 seconds - qualifying both for the Middlesex League Championships. In addition the close finish, junior Catherine Movsessian debuted in the 300m with a very strong time of 44.42 seconds to pick up third place. Prior to the sprinters putting the meet out of reach, senior captain Lily Sheth took another crack at the 1000m. After breezing to victory in 3:23 two weeks ago, Sheth took a more aggressive approach on Tuesday by bursting away from the field from early on. She cross the line with a huge PR of 3:10.49, qualifying for the Division 1 Championships in the process. Following Sheth was fellow classmate and captain Pauline Steines, who's time of 3:15.08 as qualified for Divisionals. A special shout-out should also go to sophomore Raegan Lacombe. A Shot Putter for the first half of her Indoor Season, the young athlete tried her hand at the High Jump against Reading and cleared 4'8". That leap places her third on The Minutemen's depth chart and puts her just two inches shy of qualifying for the D1 Championships.
In the boys meet The Minutemen were off to a hot start on the straightaway. Senior Ian Richter narrowly took the 55m Hurdles in a time of 8.52 seconds. That was followed up by Darren Tswei earning the first individual victory of his career. The LHS junior won the 55m Dash with a personal best time of 6.97 seconds. From that moment on Lexington never looked back and were on their way to a decisive victory against the Rockets. Along the way senior Josh Backert regained his claim to the fastest time in Massachusetts in the 600m, as he ran a PR time of 1:22.17. Senior captain Andrew McGovern (2:35.69) and fellow classmate Micah Benson (2:38.72) gave the crowd quite the show by turning in the #2 and #5 times respectively in the state in the 1000m. To close out the meet, Backert and McGovern teamed up with fellow classmates Selvin Backert and Colin Breen to win the 4x400m Relay in a MA #2 time of 3:28.53.
