Meet Information
Winchester Dual Meet
January 24, 2020
Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - It was a late night at Reggie Lewis this past Friday, as the final Middlesex League Dual Meet finished just after 10:30 PM. In the end though both the boys (68-32) and girls (78-22) bested the Sachems of Winchester to seal an undefeated regular season as well as the Liberty Division Championships. For The Minutemen this was the first time that both teams have won the title in the same season since 2016.
The girls team was particularly on its game as the team turned in over a dozen season or personal bests against the Sachems. Sophomore Clara Fu ran the race of her life - so far - in the 2 Mile. Using a tremendous final 200 meters, Fu surged into the lead and broke the tape in 11:57.73, an over 10-second PR that qualifies her for the Division 1 Championships. The 4x400m Relay of Catherine Movsessian, Eileen Cannon, Lily Sheth, and Aleia Gisolfi-McCready ran the fastest time run in the League this season, qualifying for Divisionals by running 4:12.89. Sophomore Mari McBride won the High Jump by soaring over the bar at 5'0" and matching her PR in the event. McBride also came back to anchor the 4x200m Relay with an unofficial split of 26.6 seconds, leading The Minutemen to victory along the way. Senior Chrisondra Awomah appears to be regaining her form in the Shot Put. The senior dropped the best throw in the League (34'2") en route to a sweep of the event by LHS. Freshman sensation Ava Criniti continued her stellar debut campaign in the Mile. Using her signature finishing kick, The Minutemen's young harrier bested Winchester's Elizabeth Reynolds - one of the League's best milers - with a personal best time of 5:20.13.
On the boys side it was the same story as The Minutemen racked up a number of PRs while running Winchester clear off the track. LHS went one-two or swept every event from the 300m to the 2 Mile en route to victory. In the 600m, junior Stephen Joseph won his first varsity race with a huge PR of 1:25.04. In addition to qualifying him for Divisionals that time is the 10th fastest run anywhere in the State this season. Joseph was also back to lead off the relay with an unofficial 53.2 split helping the team take the 4x400m victory to finish off the meet. In the 1000m Evan Eberle won the race with a D1 qualifying time of 2:37.74. Despite not taking the victory, perhaps The Minutemen's best event on the night was the 55m High Hurdles where all four athletes turned in massive season or personal bests. Senior Ian Richter placed second with a D1 qualifying time and PR of 8.13 seconds. Senior captain Shymon Samsel was third with a League qualifying time of 8.51 seconds; a season best by nearly a half second. Freshman Michael Gerfen ran a PR of 8.68. And running a PR of over a second was Thomas Chin (9.07).
