BOSTON, MA - Sunday Lexington High School made their first trip of the season to Roxbury where they competed at the Winter Festival. For the past several seasons The Minutemen have used this early season meet as a litmus test for JV runners and new comers to the team on the very fast 200 meter banked track. Lexington's athletes seized the opportunity.
For the girls the performance of the meet came from Anna Yang. The sophomore turned in a personal best in the Long Jump with her best leap carrying her 16'1.5", which placed her second overall. In addition to the second place finish her mark was qualified her for the Middlesex League Championship Meet. Along with Yang's big jump, senior captains Keena Gao (seventh) and Rachel Caldwell-Glixon (tenth) finished in the top 10 by leaping 15'7" and 15'3" respectively. While the jumpers soared, LHS's best event was hands down the Shot Put where The Minutemen placed four throwers in the top 10. Senior Chrisondra Awomah was second overall in 33'5.75". Next was a trio of sophomores led by Raquel Batista-Vieira who was fifth with a throw of 28'4". Tiffany Liu, who turned in a PR of over three feet, was sixth with a best throw of 27'9". Finally Aulani Thomas was seventh with a throw of 26'11". Running in her first high school meet freshman Cora Kemp qualified for the finals in the 55m High Hurdles and placed tenth in a time of 10.82 seconds.
