RESULTS
READING, MA - Thursday The Minutemen traveled to Reading, where both the boys and girls teams were hoping to finish off undefeated seasons and bring home the Middlesex League Liberty Division Championships. The girls team simply overpowered the Rockets, defeating them by a final score of 72-28 to earn their first back-to-back Liberty Division crowns since winning seven in a row from 2010 through 2016. On the boys side the Rockets showed up time and time again with personal bests and were able to deliver The Minutemen their first regular season "Indoor" Track loss since 2018 by a score of 56-44.
For Lexington's girls, this was the final "Indoor" Track meet of superstar sprinter Aleia Gisolfi-McCready's LHS career. The senior has been the one of the top 300m runners in the state during her time at LHS, and was looking to cap off her career in style against Reading. She began the day in her signature event. While temperatures in the low 50s, with a steady wind and on-and-off rain were not exactly the ideal sprinting conditions, Gisolfi-McCready blasted away from the field out the of the blocks and drove down homestretch to a season best time of 40.8 seconds. That time was the best run in the League by nearly two seconds, and she wasn't done yet. Gisolfi-McCready was back to anchor the 4x400m Relay. With the meet, and the championship in hand, all that was left was for her and her team of senior captain Aylin Bruce, freshman Adia Singh, senior Catherine Movsessian was to run their hearts out. They did that and more with a dominant win by 18 seconds (4:13.5), capped off by Gisolfi-McCready's 59.9 second anchor leg. With that time, LHS reclaimed the top time in the League this season. Another stellar final performance for The Minutemen came from senior Eileen Cannon. One of LHS's captains, she was competing for the final time with The Minutemen and went out in style. Cannon was second to Gisolfi-McCready in the 300m with a personal best 43.2 second finish. That time was third fastest in the League. She then came back for one final run with LHS's 4x200m Relay - of which she has been a four year member - splitting 27.7 seconds to help bring home a final victory for the team in 1:52.3.
In the boys meet the Mid-D squad came through with the two top performances on the day for The Minutemen. First in the 600m, Stephen Joseph blasted away from the field from the gun. The LHS senior came through 400m in a brisk 54 seconds before driving for home and crossing the line in 1:24.5. That time was not just three seconds clear of the field, but nearly two seconds faster than any other time run in the League this season. Along with the 600m, Joseph also turned in a 51 flat split in the 4x400m. Following up on Joseph's big win, captain Evan Eberle was simply too much to handle in the 1000m. The junior harrier ran a season best 2:36.9 to win the race with the League's top time - and only time under 2:40. In addition to Mid-D, LHS's "Bomb Squad" was represented well by senior captain Jarret Dlugy. The discus specialist turned in a personal best 43'9" throw in the Shot Put to place second.
