RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - After a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indoor Track & Field is back in Massachusetts. For The Minutemen, that meant a season opener against the Marauders of Belmont. Despite the serious lack of experience on the standard 200m track as last year's winter season was held outdoors, both the boys and girls teams came through in fine fashion on Wednesday by dispatching Belmont by almost identical scores of 63-37 and 64-36 respectively.
For the Lex girls, the meet against Belmont was the return to the track for All-American Mari McBride. Now a senior captain for The Minutemen, McBride showed that she is primed and ready for another stellar season both on the track and in the field. She began her day on the High Jump apron where she cleared 5'4". Due to a new rule added by the MIAA this year, that mark matches the SuperMax standard that automatically qualifies her for the All-State Championships. Shortly after clearing the bar at 5'4", McBride stepped on the track for the first time since competing at The Outdoor Nationals at Historic Hayward Field last Summer, and cruised to victory in a new personal best time of 42.73 to easily take the 300m and qualify for the Division 1 Championships. McBride finished off her day by anchoring the 4x200m Relay to victory. Another triumphant return to the track came from junior Ava Criniti. After an injury cost her most of her winter and entire spring track seasons, many were anxious to see what the young harrier would have in store for the Middlesex League in her first meet in nearly a year. Criniti did not leave any doubt that she is ready for another stellar season. Blasting out from the pack in the Mile from the gun, Criniti poured in on the field throughout the race to win with a Divisional qualifying time of 5:18.87. She then doubled back to help LHS's 4x400m Relay team hit the Divisional qualifying mark, with a time of 4:20.83.
The boys meet saw senior captain Ollie DiCerbo get things off to a strong start in the Mile. After a pedestrian opening lap, DiCerbo began to slowly wind up the pace of middle portion of the race. As he came around the final turn he gave one final charge to just edge out Reading senior Robert Squires for the top time on the day (4:41.32). That time qualified him for the Divisional Championships. Along with DiCerbo, junior Brandon Uda-Thach put the League on notice that the next generation of long sprinters is ready to roll in Lexington. Uda-Thach was out fast over the first 150, and closed hard to take the tape with a new PR and Divisional qualifying time of 37.09. His time was the fastest of the night in the League, just edging out his teammate Josh Lee who also qualified for Divisionals with a time of 37.20.
