Meet Information
MSTCA Auerbach Freshmen/Sophomore Meet
January 9, 2022
Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA

RESULTS

BOSTON, MA - Sunday LHS's underclassmen took center stage at Reggie Lewis for the annual Freshmen/Sophomore Meet. The meet offered the chance for the underclassmen to see how they stack up against fellow classmates from across the state. While The Minutemen did not have their usual full complement of athletes at Frosh/Soph, the ones who competed certainly showed they will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

For the Lex Girls, no athlete stood taller than Quin Tandeih. A Discus thrower by trade, the sophomore thrower put the state on notice last Spring when she placed fourth at the All-State Championships in her signature event with what ended up being the second farthest throw in LHS history. Sunday, Tandeih was in the Shot Put ring where her best throw traveled 29'4" and landed her in fifth place overall. On the Boys side it was sophomore Glenn Burscu who turned in the performance of the meet. He began his day as the second seed in the 600m. However, with a quick 27-second opening lap, the sophomore gapped the field and built a lead that he would not relinquish. In the end, Burscu broke the tape in a new PR of 1:27.38 to earn the victory. He then doubled back to anchor his team's 4x400m Relay in the unseeded section with an unofficial split of 54.7 seconds. That time would hold up through the heats to earn him a silver medal to go with his 600m gold.

Other Highlights for the Girls
  • In the 1000m, sophomores Maya Dubrovsky (3:21.69) and Samara McVey (3:22.74) both turned in PRs and finished 9th and 10th respectively.
  • Running the 55m High Hurdles, sophomore Katie Atkins ran a PR of 10.45 seconds to finished 10th overall.
  • Freshman Brett Castro turned in a nearly 10-second personal best in the 2 Mile to finish 10th in 12:52.22.
  • Sophomore Jada Solomon (47.15) PRed to finish 15th in the 300m; freshman Sophie Glavine (47.93) was 20th, besting her PR.
  • In the Shot Put, sophomore Cleo McBride threw a PR of 24'4.50" to finish 18th overall.

Other Highlights for the Boys
  • The only LHS athlete to take home three medals on Sunday was sophomore Jacob Pan; he placed sixth in the 55m Hurdles with a PR and Middlesex League Championship qualifying time of 9.06; set a new PR in the Long Jump of 17'11" to place seventh; then led off the 4x200m Relay that placed eighth.
  • Freshman Max Zhang earned the silver medal in the 1000m with a new PR of 2:47.12.
  • The 4x400m Relay of Zhang, sophomores Joey Ryan, Gavin Bracken, and Burscu combined to run 3:45.63 in their silver medal winning performance.
  • Bracken (4:49.46) and Ryan (4:58.66) both PRed in the Mile, with Bracken placing fifth and Ryan finishing 16th.
  • Along with Pan, freshmen McKenna O'Hare Gibson, Ryan Zhang, and sophomore Khai Uda-Thach combined to medal in the 4x200 with a time of 1:42.06.
  • In the 600m, freshman Graham Schrodel turned in a PR of 1:38.16 to finish 18th.
