Winchester Dual Meet

Boston University Indoor Track & Tennis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - In the final dual meet of the season The Minutemen faced off against the Red and Black of Winchester. With the Northeast Invitational looming over the weekend, both squads rested a number of their top athletes. The athletes that did compete for LHS showed very well across the board with the Boys and Girls winning by nearly identical scores of 85-13 and 86-14 respectively.
For the Lex Girls it was senior captain Elena Sabin who got things off to a strong start. Outdoors, Sabin is one of the Bay State's top 400m Intermediate Hurdlers. This season she has parlayed that into success both on the oval and the straightaway. Already a Divisional qualifier in the 600m, on Thursday night Sabin took home the victory in the 55m High Hurdles with a new PR and a Middlesex League Championship qualifying time of 9.76 seconds. In one of the few true battles of the meet, sophomore Samara McVey and Winchester junior Amanda Harrison were neck-and-neck over the final 200m of the Mile. As they rounded the final turn and charged for home, McVey gutted it out to edge out Harrison by less than a tenth of a second. Her final time was a new PR of 5:47.23, which qualifies her for Divisionals. Also qualifying for Divisionals, and running a huge PR, was junior Ashley Taylor (5:50.45). Finally, it was the 4x200m Relay of junior Rose O'Neill, sophomores Jada Solomon and Adeline Favazzo, and senior captain Mari McBride who came through with a season best and Divisional qualifying time of 1:51.24.
On the Boys side, no athlete in the Middlesex League had a better night than LHS's own "Sundance Kid", Kaden Cassidy. After a foul on his first throw in the Shot Put, Cassidy - who just started throwing the Shot Put this year - uncorked a 49'1" throw. That was a PR by over five feet, but he was not done. On his final throw, the LHS junior dropped another bomb that was measured at 49'11". With that, Cassidy now has the farthest throw in the League and qualified for the All-State Championships by achieving the SuperMax standard. Along with Cassidy's big night, fellow classmate - and first year LHS Track & Field athlete - Jake Wheaton won the 55m Dash with a new PR and League Championship qualifying time of 7.03 seconds. Not to be outdone by their female counterparts, the boys 4x200m Relay also lined up on Thursday looking to achieve the Divisional standard. The team of senior captain Josh Lee, and juniors Jayden Bai, Miguel Jaramillo, and Brandon Uda-Thach came together to run the fastest time for LHS this season (1:34.58) to win the meet and achieve the Divisionals mark.
