THE WEIGHT MEN COMPLETE A FIRST FOR LHS AT BOSTON HOLIDAY CHALLENGE

Meet Information
MSTCA Boston Holiday Challenge
December 27, 2022
Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - On Tuesday a select group of LHS athletes went to what turned into a marathon meet in the form of the MSTCA Boston Holiday Challenge. The meet was one of the rare times that the MSTCA allows for the Weight Throw - an event which LHS has become the standard barer in the Bay State - to be competed. Unfortunately, meet directors chose to compete the Weight Throw in an area that is not large enough to hold the throws of the nation's top talent. Which meant that the US #1 ranked Weight Thrower, Lincoln High School (RI) senior Christian Toro's best throw of 69'10" hit a foot up on the back wall of the throwing area. This left officials no choice but to measure the distance from the base of the wall to the circle from which Toro unleashed his implement, not giving the nation's top thrower a true mark. The decision to compete the event in this insufficient area was only made more confounding given that the meet also ran for over 10 hours, and by the time the Weight Throw began, the Reggie Lewis field house was completely empty. Which would have allowed for plenty of space to safely compete the event on the infield of the track. Despite this gross lack of planning and execution, The Minutemen's best throwers still had a historic day as seniors Allen Jiang (58'6"), Kaden Cassidy (55'2"), and captain Jack Ngo (54'5") placed third, fifth, and sixth respectively in the 25lb Weight Throw. Their performances mark the first time in school history that LHS has had three boys eclipse the elusive 50ft barrier in the event in a single season, let alone a single meet.
Other Highlights from the Meet:

The Minutemen will face off against archrival Reading in two days on Thursday, December 29th at 9am. As was the case for the Girls with Woburn, on the Boys' side this meet has become one of the most hotly contested events in the Middlesex League. Last year the teams tied in their dual meet Indoors before The Minutemen got the best of the Rockets at the League Championships. Outdoors, Reading got their revenge winning in Lexington before being routed at League. Needless to say, next Thursday will see the best these two teams have to offer.
