BOSTON, MA - It was a record breaking night for The Minutemen on Monday, as both the Boys and Girls both took home the Middlesex League Championships. Wednesday, it was LHS's junior varsity athletes who got one final shot to compete at The Track at New Balance. While the meet was not scored, it was clear that The Minutemen's JV Squad was the class of the League. The Boys won five events, while putting 15 athletes in the top-three. Meanwhile, the Girls' Team won four events on their way to 14 top-three performances on the night.
The Lex Girls were led by the stellar performance of Caitlin Lennox. The sophomore got things off to a fast start on the straightaway as she blasted away from the field with a PR of 8.08 seconds in the 55m Dash. In the Mile, freshman Prachi Aggarwal shaved nearly fifteen seconds from her previous best to win the event in a time of 6:13.81. In the Shot Put, junior Cleo McBride's best throw of 26'10.75" won the meet by over a foot. Finally, it was the 4x200m Relay team of sophomore Stella Cocozza, Lennox, senior Betsy Zales, and sophomore Alkisti Kokkinia who captured the final victory for The Minutemen. The team trotted across the line in 1:58.78.
While no award was given out, the clear cut performer of the meet on the Boys' side was Lexington junior Victor Yu. He began the day with a PR of 7.00 seconds to win the 55m Dash. That time also eclipsed the League Championships qualifying standard; but Yu was just getting going. Later in the meet, he was back in the seeded section of the 300m. He blasted away from the field and won the race with an impressive time of 38.74. Along with Yu's big day, freshman Pranay Kocheta flew 18'5.50" on his second leap of the Long Jump competition. That mark also achieved the League Championship mark, and won him the event by over a foot. In the 1000m, senior Ian Miller (2:55.89) and sophomore Will Fletcher (2:55.97) battled each other to a near photo finish over the final lap of the race. The two placed first and second in the event, with both turning in personal bests. Wrapping up an undefeated season in the Middlesex League, LHS's Bomb Squad took home the victory in the Shot Put with sophomore Colin Maguire (36'9.50") winning the event by over a foot and a half.
