THE MINUTEMEN MOVE TO 3-0 AFTER BEATING BELMONT
Meet Information
Belmont Dual Meet
December 28, 2023
The Track at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - LHS's Boys and Girls have not both won their dual meets over the winter vacation since before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. That is, in part, because half of the team is often out of town when the meet takes place, which has left The Minutemen to repeatedly be beaten by teams that they are simply better than at full strength. Luckily, for LHS, this year's vacation meet was against the Belmont Marauders, who have only beaten The Minutemen once in a decade between Indoor and Outdoor. So while LHS came to The Track with a skeleton crew of student-athletes, they were still able to pull off a pair of victories. The Boys won 96-4, while the Girls managed a victory by a score of 78-21.
The Minutemen's top performance of the day was likely from McKenna O'Hare Gibson. The senior competed in the High Jump for the second time this season and was able to clear the bar at 6'0", which was the top performance in the League this week. O'Hare Gibson's clearance also marked the first time an LHS jumper cleared 6'0" in competition since 2019. Back on the oval, senior Nayan Das showed that he is ready to compete at a high level this winter. He began the day by running an even-split 1:26.83 to win the 600m. He than came back to split 50.9 on his leg of the 4x400m Relay.
On the girls' side, it was a newcomer who set the tone for her team. Freshman Emily Hoefkens took home her first high school victory, as she won the 55m Hurdles with a PR of 9.77 seconds. The ninth grader was also teamed up with freshman Iris Yu, junior Caitlin Lennox, and sophomore Felice Haverly to run a season best time of 1:53.42 in the 4x200m Relay. After a tough meet last week, senior Samara McVey returned to form on Thursday. She began the day with a PR of 5:29.35 to win the Mile going away. McVey then turned around quickly and was back on the track to win the 1000m with a time of 3:14.82. That mark was just off her lifetime best in her signature Indoor event.
