RANEY ESTABLISHES NEW LHS RECORD TO HIGHLIGHT HOLIDAY CHALLENGE MEET
Meet Information
MSTCA Boston Holiday Challenge at The Track
December 27, 2023
Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Wednesday, a small contingent of LHS's student-athletes traveled into Boston to compete at the annual Holiday Challenge. The meet had a new twist this year, as it was hosted at The Track at New Balance, which helped to attract some of the top talent from around the Northeast. In addition to the new setting, the meet offered athletes the opportunity to compete in events not typically done Indoors in Massachusetts. For The Minutemen, that meant that its pole vaulters had their first chance to jump this season.
While Nick Jauvtis (LHS '96) holds the Outdoor Record in the Pole Vault (13'6"), he never had the chance to compete in his event indoors. In fact, after he competed on Wednesday, sophomore Aidan Raney has the distinction of being the first LHS male to pole vault for the team in Indoor Track & Field. Which meant that his jump of 11'0" established a new LHS Record in the event. For his efforts, Raney finished 13th overall. His female counterpart, senior captain Katie Atkins, was able to clear the bar at 10'0" to earn the silver medal in the Vault. Along with the vaulters, LHS got to compete in the Weight Throw for the first time this season. Senior Quin Tandeih was the top finisher for The Minutemen. Her throw of the 20lb. Weight flew 38'1" and landed her in fifth place. Senior captain "Downtown" Elijah Brown's best throw of the 25lb. Weight was 39'11", which gave him a 15th place finish overall.
