Meet Information
JV Meet #2
December 20, 2023
Boston University Indoor Track & Tennis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - The Minutemen were back in action for the first of back-to-back meets in the leadup to winter break. Wednesday night it was LHS's junior varsity squad who took their turn on what is likely the fastest track in the world. The newly resurfaced Boston University Indoor Track & Tennis Center has been the site of numerous NCAA, National, and World Records. Most recently, the NCAA Division 1 Men's and Women's Cross Country Champions - Harvard's Graham Banks (13:03.72), and University of Florida's Parker Valby (14:56.11) - smashed the Division 1 Indoor 5000m records earlier this month.
The Boys Meet was highlighted by a freshman who made his debut for The Minutemen, and a senior who showed very strong as he dropped down in distance for the first time this season. Arjun Raha toed the line for the first time for LHS, and flashed a glimpse of the talent that made him one of the top middle distance runners in the country last spring while he competed for Clarke Middle School. Raha went out to an early lead in the 600m, and poured it on over the final lap of the race to cross the line in 1:33.12. That mark was the top time in the event on the day, as the freshman led a platinum sweep of the event with junior Kabir Gokarn (1:34.30), sophomore Saleem Karachi (1:37.03), and junior Graham Schrodel (1:38.75) taking the next three spots for The Minutemen. Along with the fine debut by Raha, it was senior Owen Lawler who led the way for The Minutemen in the Mile. After a conservative opening quarter, Lawler geared up over the final six laps and crossed the line in a personal best time of 4:58.29 to win the event. Sophomores Henry Finch (5:08.71) and Sean Ryan (5:08.77) broke out the golden broom to complete the sweep of the Mile.
On the girls' side, it was another freshman with a standout performance. Due to facility rules, athletes are not allowed to wear metal spike inserts in their competition shoes at BU. That issue clearly did not impact Layla Farnham, however. The young sprinter shaved off over a tenth-of-a-second from her 55m Dash PR that she ran with spikes last week. Her time of 8.24 seconds was the second fastest in the League on Wednesday night. Another highlight for the Lex Girls came from sophomore Prachi Aggarwal, as she turned in perhaps the best race of her career. Despite Winchester's Chloe Walker going out to a big early lead, Aggarwal remained calm and stuck to her race plan. She used a furious final 150 catch Walker, and won going away in a time of 3:31.54.
