The Track at New Balance - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - It has been nearly a month since LHS's junior varsity athletes got their last chance to race at The Track in Boston. Thursday, they took full advantage of that opportunity as a number of student-athletes earned their varsity letters, and a select few even qualified for a chance to compete at the Middlesex League Championships in February.
Coming off a resurgent Cross Country season this past fall, the Boys Distance Squad has showcased its depth this winter. That depth was once again on full display in the Mile. Senior Owen Lawler led the way for The Minutemen. His time of 4:56.13 won the event and qualified him for the League Championships. Along with Lawler, Will Parker was also able to achieve the League standard. The sophomore harrier came through with a PR of 4:57.36. Not to be outdone by his distance teammates, junior Kabir Gokarn turned in a big race in the 600m. He dominated his heat from start-to-finish, and won it by nearly 10 seconds with a PR and League qualifying time of 1:32.05.
The Lex Girls were led by standout performances from the Sprints and Jumps Squad. The group combined to sweep the top three places in the 55m, 300m, and the Long Jump. However, it was in the 300m where the best performances of the night came through. Senior Carson Cheng won the event with a PR of 45.94 seconds. That time is the second fastest run by an LHS sprinter this winter, and was well under the varsity standard of 47.00. Alkisti Kokkinia also achieved the varsity standard on Thursday. The junior clocked a PR of 46.34 to grab second place overall in the event.
