Meet Information
116th NYRR Millrose Games
February 11, 2024
The Armory - New York, NY
RESULTS
NEW YORK, NY - On Super Bowl Sunday, the focus of Lexington's best was not on the big game in Las Vegas, but rather the bright lights of New York City for the 116th installment of the most storied indoor track & field meet in the world. This year's Millrose Games featured many incredible performances. However, the highlight of the day came from World 1500m Champion, Great Britain's Josh Kerr, who sent The Armory into a frenzy with when he broke the World Record in the 2 Mile with a time of 8:00.67. That effort included a stunning 3:57 last mile to break the tape. There was also Ellie St. Pierre's return to the winner's circle in the Women's Wanamaker Mile with a new American Record of 4:16.41. And, Bahamian Devynne Charlton set the infield ablaze with a new World Record of 7.67 seconds in the Women's 60m Hurdles.
Before all of the action on the pro circuit, The Minutemen's 4x800m Relay had the opportunity to compete against a nationally ranked field that featured the #1 and #2 teams in the country, DeMatha Catholic and Bishop McNamara from Maryland. To meet the challenge, LHS called on senior Nayan Das, junior Zach Barry, and captains Joey "The Candyman" Ryan and Max Zhang. Things got off to a great start as Das was out strong on the opening leg, and maintained solid position throughout. After a bit of a fumble on the handoff, The Minutemen sat in fifth place with the 1:59.78 FAT split turned in by Das. Barry then barreled around the first turn, and navigated the crowded field well through three laps. The junior looked to have his team in prime position with Ryan anxiously waiting for the baton. However, just as he was about to make the handoff disaster struck. Ryan found himself laid out on the track after a collision with Upper Dublin's (PA) Gus Platt. Despite the setback, the LHS senior quickly gathered himself and got back after it. He charged back into the race and was able to manage a 2:02.00 FAT split, which had The Minutemen in eighth place once Zhang got his hands on the baton. The junior flew through the first 100 meters trying to build momentum. He was able to surge past the Nike Cross Northeast Regional Champs from Christian Brothers Academy (NJ) with a quick 27-second opening 200. Zhang dug deep throughout, and crossed the line in 8:04.20 to place his team seventh overall after an FAT split of 1:59.45. Despite the disappointment, Lexington's boys proved a lot at Millrose. They showed they can race with the best the US has to offer. They showed they can take a hit. And they showed a tremendous level of poise to not lose focus when things did not turnout how they hoped. With the team's ultimate prize of another MIAA Division 1 state title staring them in the face this coming week, LHS can feel confident that Das, Barry, Ryan, and Zhang will come ready to lay it on their line for their teammates.
