NOONAN'S SILVER, AND GLENN'S BREAKOUT RACE HIGHLIGHT DAY 1 AT NATIONALS
Meet Information
New Balance Indoor Nationals Day 1
March 7, 2024
The Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - The New Balance Indoor Nationals got off to a sensational start for The Minutemen on Thursday. It was the Class of 2027 who took center stage, and made a statement that they will be a force in the Bay State and beyond for years to come.
Freshman phenom Patrick Noonan led the way for The Minutemen. He came into Nationals with a Mile PR of 4:25, ranked third in the nation, and hoped to compete for a podium spot at "the fastest party on earth." When the gun fired, LHS's freshman harrier followed his race plan to the letter. He went straight to the back of the pack as the field went out in a fast pace. Noonan remained calm and slowly worked his way through the pack, and came through the 800m mark in fifth place with a split of 2:13. From there he made a bold move, and charged up to the head of the chase pack with only Jackson Miller (Saint Louis, MO) ahead of him. In the end Miller went on to win the race in a new US #1 freshman mark of 4:17.87. Meanwhile, Noonan battled every step of the way, and with a 31-second final lap just edged Jack Jennings (Palatine, IL) by 0.12 seconds to earn the silver medal with a new PR and US #2 time of 4:22.44. Along with Noonan, fellow classmate Callie Glenn put on an absolute show of her own. Seeded 24th in the Girls Freshman Mile with a lifetime best of 5:17, Glenn competed in the unseeded section on Thursday night. Like her male counterpart, Glenn also took a conservative approach to the early part of the race. She came through the halfway point in 13th place with a modest split of 2:37. However, what made Glenn's freshman campaign so special all year is her competitive drive to deliver her best performances against the best competition. The final four laps of her race at Nationals proved just that, as the ninth grader made a furious drive to the finish over the final four laps of the race. With each of those laps faster than the previous one, she ran down nearly the entire field and crossed the line second in her heat with a massive personal best of 5:09.36. That time held up through the seeded section to land her in ninth place overall, in what was simply a sensational sendoff for her final race of the season.
