FRESHMAN SHINE AGAIN AS CHAMBERS AND HOUSE HAVE BIG DAYS AT NATIONALS
Meet Information
New Balance Indoor Nationals Day 2
March 8, 2024
The Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Day 1 of New Balance Indoor Nationals saw The Minutemen's freshman class put on quite a show at The Reggie. Day 2 was more of the same, as Cayden Chambers and Eric House were at their absolute best competing against the best prep talent in the nation. The duo led what was another great day for LHS Track & Field.
Chambers burst onto the scene for LHS this season when he achieved the Freshman Nationals standard with his very first run in the 55m Dash. Fast-forward to Friday, and the young speedster got things off to a blazing fast start for The Minutemen. As is done at the NCAA level and on the pro-circuit, at Nationals, athletes compete in the 60m Dash. This meant that Chambers' first time competing the distance was against the top ninth graders in the country. To put it plainly, Chambers rose to the occasion. He blasted out of the blocks with his signature explosive initial steps, and streaked down the straightaway to a time of 7.31 seconds. That mark converted to a 6.81-second 55m Dash time, which was over a tenth-of-a-second better than his previous best. For his efforts, Chambers landed in 17th place in a stacked field to put a cap on a fantastic freshman campaign. Back on the oval, it was House's turn to make his mark. LHS's young harrier competed in the 800m after his 1000m time qualified him for the Freshman Division. He had not raced an 800 since back in June at the Massachusetts Middle School State Championships where he ran 2:13, but he made massive strides as an athlete and a competitor in the last nine months. House flew through the opening quarter mile in a 60-second split, and gutted out the final two laps to cross the line with a huge PR of 2:06.33, which was good enough for 42nd place overall.
Other Highlights from the track
Up Next
Tomorrow, March 9th, The Minutemen will be at The Reggie for the final time this season. Day 3 of New Balance Indoor Nationals begins with junior Ryan Zhang and sophomore Simon Tandeih taking their shot at the 60m Hurdles at 8:34am. In the afternoon, senior captain Joey "The Candyman" Ryan will make one final run in the 2 Mile. Having just broke the LHS record from 1991 his last time out - in the second leg of an epic triple for his team - Ryan will be poised to put an emphatic stamp on a legendary Indoor Season. Live results can be found HERE, and the meet can be livestreamed free all weekend.
