RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Thursday The Minutemen were back in Middlesex League action against Belmont. On the girls side, The Minutemen were facing a tough Belmont squad that had dispatched archrival Woburn handily last week. The two teams traded places throughout the night, and going into the relays the meet was still undecided. In the end Belmont's 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter teams simply had too much firepower and Lexington came up short, falling by a score of 57-43. For the boys it was a different story. After placing first in the 55 meter High Hurdles, Belmont would relinquish the lead in the very next event when LHS senior captain Kazu Uda-Thach and junior Brian Her went one-three in the 55 meter Dash. The Minutemen would never look back from there, eventually taking the meet by a score of 78-22.
Despite the tough loss, the girls team had numerous stellar performances. In the 300 meters sophomore Aleia Gisolfi-McCready blazed away from the field, winning by nearly two seconds in a Division 1 qualifying time of 42.47. Gisolfi-McCready's time is the fifth fastest run anywhere in Massachusetts this season. In addition to her 300m time the star sophomore won the 55 meter Dash by less than one-hundredth of a second with a time of 8.09 seconds, and also jumped a season best 4'8" in the High Jump. Also in the High Jump, freshmen Mari McBride had a Division 1 qualifying leap of 4'10". The distance events also saw two members of The Minutemen squad qualify for the Division 1 meet. Junior Pauline Steines placed second in the Mile with a time of 5:32.30 - she would later return to pick up third place in the 1000 meters (3:19.53) - while senior captain Kesinia Sortor had a second place finish of her own in the Two Mile with of 11:56.30.
After cruising through the opening mile of the boys Two-Mile along with LHS junior Micah Benson - who would finish second in 9:59.55 - and Belmont junior Stephen Carvalho (10:02.59), senior captain Eli Gappelberg took over the race and broke from the field with a strong final half mile. He took the race in a Division 1 qualifying time of 9:48.68. Not to be outdone, the 4x200 meter relay of Uda-Thach and Her along with senior captain Alex Hiser and fellow senior Matt Pusatere won their race in a Division 1 qualifying time of 1:34.02.
